For those who do not know, the ARS Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest is a showcase event that is played in four different cities around the country for high school hoops. Tampa Bay, Dallas, Memphis, and Washington D.C are the four stops that have been scheduled for this season.
Holy Spirt Prep, out of Atlanta, Georgia, has already competed in the Washington D.C event this season. The Cougars of Holy Spirit split their trip in the nations capital with a win over Archbishop Carroll (DC), where star 2019 SG Anthony Edwards had his season high 41 points (37 in the second half), and where the fell to a super talented Sunrise Christian (KS) program. The Cougars have been battling the countries top talent all season long. They have already played in four national events in D.C, Texas, Georgia, and South Carolina.
They will be playing two games this weekend while in Memphis. Their first matchup will be against Memphis East (TN), a program that former NBA superstar Penny Hardaway used to run and a program that holds the nations number one senior in Memphis signee C James Wiseman. Their matchup with Memphis East (TN) is scheduled to tip off at 8pm ET and should pack the house for the night with two of the top seniors going head-to-head. Saturday’s matchup, Holy Spirit will be scheduled to face the host school Briarcrest Christian School (TN), who will be coming in hot with a 16-1 overall record and riding an eight game winning streak.
For Meadowcreek, the Mustangs will be competing in their first out of state event of the season. The Mustangs are coming off their lost to Grayson High School in the 2018 TOC Classic Championship where they fell at a score of 55-51. Coach G and his program has faced a lot heat this year already after facing Wheeler, Holy Spirit Prep, competing in the 2018 Holiday Hoopsgiving, the Braggin Rights (GA vs AL) Event, and the 2018 TOC Classic. Their trio of UAB signee 2019 PG Jalen Benjamin, South Florida signee 2019 SG Jamir Chaplin, and Temple signee 2019 SG Damian Dunn have led the way for the defending class 7A champions so far this season.
The Mustangs will be heading to Memphis with an overall 13-3 record and will also be expected to play two games this weekend. Their first contest will be against Barlett (TN), who is coming into this one with only one lost so far this season, on Friday night right before Holy Spirit and Memphis East (TN) tip off. Their Saturday matchup was supposed to be against Chicago powerhouse Whitney Young (IL), but instead they will be facing Tennessee’s division two class AA defending champions in Brentwood Academy (TN). Brentwood is the same school as former top-25 2018 recruit and now at Vanderbilt, point guard Darius Garland. Meadowcreek could possibly come home to the peach state undefeated in Memphis and same goes for Holy Spirit Prep. Hopefully both programs will set the tone and show the nation what Georgia basketball is all about.
