McEachern High School, out of Powder Springs, Georgia, has been dominating this high school season behind their star point guard 2020 Sharife Cooper and Auburn signee 2019 F Isaac Okoro. Their run for a state championship continues after getting three major wins last week in Springfield, Missouri as they participated in the 35th Annual Bass Pro Shop Tournament of Champions.
The Indians defeated local powerhouse Springfield Catholic (MO) in the first round 72-45 and where Sharife Cooper led all scorers with 28 points and while Okoro finished with 16 points and 6 boards. The second round matchup came in as interesting one and who many expected to be a back-and-forth game. Shadow Mountain (AZ), a program ran by former NBA standout Mike Bibby, was the only team in McEachern’s way before advancing to the title game.
Shadow Mountain (AZ) has been known for their scrappy and distruptive defense and led by Arizona State commit 2019 PG Jaelen House and Grand Canyon commit 2019 PG Jovan Blackshear. The Indians took a huge lead early in the first half over one of Arizona’s top programs. The game became close in the second half but the smart play of Sharife Cooper got McEachern the win 73-61 and where Cooper finished with another game high 31 points with 7 rebounds.
The Indians were up against another big test in the title game and that test was against Sunrise Christian (KS) out of Bel Air, Kansas. The Buffaloes of Sunrise Christian were one of the best teams in the nation and headlined by 2019 PG Grant Sherfield and 2020 C N’Faly Dante. This Sunrise Christian (KS) squad was very talented and featured several division one prospects. It was a tight game all night long and the contest had to go into overtime. The Indians were down one with just a few seconds left in regulation until Sharife Cooper hits a dagger three to basically ice the win. Cooper again led with 20 points while Isaac Okoro finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds in their championship win.
Sharife Cooper received most valuable player honors while Isaac Okoro was put on the all tournament team list. McEachern has now improved to a fantastic and eye popping 18-0 record on the year. After their time in Missouri, they will now be heading to the famous Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts where another test awaits. They will be playing tomorrow live on ESPNU at 1:00pm ET against Rancho Christian (CA) and the Mobley Brothers. Another game, if the Indians pull out the win, that will add to their fine resume on the year.
