This week the national and famous Bass Pro Shop Tournament of Champions is set to tip off tomorrow and will run all the way through Saturday January 19th. The Bass Pro Shop TOC has been one of the best tournaments for high school boys hoops for years and this year it is no different. This year’s field includes McEachern (GA), Belleville West (IL), Rainer Beach (WA), Memphis East (TN), Shadow Mountain (AZ), Sunrise Christian (KS), and local schools in Springfield Catholic (MO) and Parkiview (MO).
Georgia will obviously be represented with McEachern being in the mix. The Indians are making their third out of state trip in the last two months, City of Palms Classic (Fort Myers, FL) and Cancer Research Classic (Wheeling, WV) being the other two. Coach Thompson and his staff did not hesitate to put their group in the best of the best nationally when it comes to competition. The Indians are coming into this tournament with an impressive 15-0 record and securing a top-5 ranking nationally in most polls.
2020 PG Sharife Cooper has been having an outstanding junior campaign and putting up great numbers sitting at 6-foot-1 throughout the season. Guys like Auburn signee 2019 F Isaac Okoro and Northwestern signee 2019 F Jared Jones have been a big help to McEachern’s success this year and let us not forget other important playmakers like senior guards Alyn Breed and Quinton McElroy. The Indians are set to face Springfield Catholic (MO) in the first round of the Bass Pro Shop TOC and should move on to the second round where they could face either Belleville West (IL) or Shadow Mountain (AZ).
It will not be a cake walk getting to the title game for the Indians with this field. All these programs are considered elite and after the first round against Springfield (MO), the competition gets even better. Belleville West (IL), Shadow Mountain (AZ), Sunrise Christian (KS), and Rainer Beach (WA) are all ranked nation in most polls in the top-25. McEachern has been battle tested all season and Cooper and Okoro have only lost four total games in a McEachern uniform together.
