1) Scotlandville (24-1)
Once again at the top of the top in Division I is Scotlandville. They have proved over and over again this season that they have as good a resume as anyone in the state. So far this season, 2020 G Reece Beekman has made a case as well as anyone that he is deserving of the player on the year in the state of Louisiana. Also, here is a bit of a spoiler for the Louisiana Top 25 list, the list of the best 25 teams in the state regardless of class, that is going to be released later this week; Scotlandville is top 2, and they aren’t 2…
2) St. Augustine (23-2)
I will be honest, this is a season that I wasn’t really expecting from St. Augustine. I figured they would be good, like they always are, but I thought this would be a bit of a rebuilding year, as they wait for their younger players to mature. They have totally proved me wrong. They are absolutely title contenders this season, and they have one of the longest winnings streaks going in the state right now, winning 15 straight and haven’t lost since December 1st.
3) Holy Cross (21-5)
21 wins is certainly something to be proud of so far this season, but if you take into account the competition level that Holy Cross has played night in and night out, you get another appreciation of what they have done so far this season. They have only lost to one team that isn’t a serious state title contender, and they have definitely beat a few on the way. They have the talent to compete with anyone in the state, and their record to this point certainly shows that.
4) Jesuit (22-4)
Jesuit so far this season has only lost four games, but two of them have come against St. Augustine. None of their losses have come against teams that are ranked outside of the top 5 in their classes, and that certainly means something. They have gotten some big games from 2019 G Elijah Morgan, and are going to need him to come through when it comes to playoff time. This also marks three teams from the New Orleans Catholic League in the top 5 in Division I.
5) Catholic BR (18-5)
Catholic is the only team in the top 5 of Division I that isn’t at 20 wins yet this season, but they certainly have the talent to compete with anyone. They still brought back the main contributors from a team that was just a game away from getting to the state championship game, and I think that their ceiling is very similar this season. I look for Catholic to real off some wins from here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t close out the regular season on a long winning streak from here on out.
