Only Miami Gulliver Prep and Coral Springs Charter posted victories by double-digits Saturday at Stranahan High. Nine more games are set to tip on Monday.
Here is a recap of Saturday’s final four games:
Oxbridge Academy 61, Miami Coral Park 54
Oxbridge (17-0) stayed unbeaten, despite playing most of the game without senior center Dante Wilcox. The FIU 6-foot-6 recruit was hit in the mouth and sustained damage to his teeth. He had to be taken for treatment.
Senior Klein Alexandre led the ThunderWolves with 22 points, sophomore guard Jason Simpson had 13 and senior guard A.J. Cajuste 11.
Junior Ga’Khari Lacount (above) poured in 28 points — including six 3-pointers — for coach Alejandro Ordoqui and Coral Park (10-8). Fellow junior Jason Don added 14.
Dillard 76, Palm Beach Lakes 68
Dillard senior center Mackrere Williams posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He was named the game’s MVP. Senior guard Deshawn Bartley also had 19 points.
Dillard upped its record to 11-4. The Panthers’ only loss to a Florida squad is at defending 8A state champion Blanche Ely.
The loss is Palm Beach Lakes’ third in a row after a 9-0 start.
Lakes senior guard Sheldon Edwards hit six 3-pointers on the way to 31 points.
Cardinal Gibbons 69, Mater Academy 67
Gibbons’ Alex Vertus got a hand on the shot of Mater Academy’s Isaiah Josue as the buzzer sounded to preserve the victory.
The Chiefs’ Isaiah Edden led the way offensively with 25 points. He was named the game’s MVP. Vertus added 15 points. Gibbons (13-6) played without senior big Gertautas Urbonavicius (ankle sprain). Coach Devin Barta, who was out of town at a wedding, also missed the game.
Freshman big Malik Reneau led Mater Academy (11-4) with 22 points. Josue had 19.
Coral Springs Charter 52, Miami Norland 40
Coral Springs Charter had struggled in the past week with three starters out with injuries. The Panthers dropped two of their past three to Miami High and St. Andrew’s.
But Saturday junior guard Yugivon Jeanty and 6-6 junior forward Ian Tajalli returned to the starting lineup and Charter (14-6) started to get its mojo back. Tajalli led the way with 24 points and was named the game’s MVP. Freshman Aidan Abell added 15.
Junior Johnny Kerinsant (6-5) still has a boot on his foot and is expected to be out another 1-2 weeks. 2020 G Justin Allen sat out with a sprained foot but expects to play next week.
Senior guard Travis Baker led Norland with 12 points.
