Stay tuned right here for live running reports from Stranahan:
PBG Dwyer 50, IMG Blue 48
Dwyer senior Brandon Williams‘ 3-pointer at the buzzer sent Dwyer past IMG Blue. All 7 of Williams’ points came in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers (12-6) started the season 2-4 but have won seven in a row since an overtime victory over Sagemont at the Charger Classic on Jan. 5. Dwyer whipped rival Palm Beach Lakes, 75-55, Friday night.
2022 Xavier Scott continues to impress. The 5-11 guard led Dwyer with 13 points.
“He works hard,” said Dwyer coach Fred Ross, who feels Scott could end up being a special player before he’s done. “Nothing’s too big for him.”
Dwyer was without senior guard Mikey Ingraham, who injured a knee vs. Jupiter. Ingraham and doctors are waiting for the swelling to go down to detect the severity of the injury.
Miami Gulliver Prep 66, Grandview Prep 50
High-major Division I prospect Tony Sanders did what he wanted to — inside and out — for Gulliver Prep (8-8). The junior wing finished with 27 points, including two 3-pointers.
2020 center Diego LaMonica added 12 points. The 6-5 LaMonica is a Division I football prospect with offers including Virginia and Southern Miss.
“We’ve been focusing on every day, with practices and games, being consistent and moving the ball,” Gulliver coach Manny Bloom said. “We’ve had 19 assists the game before. We probably had similar to that today.”
Sophomore forward Pedro Brown and senior guard Cam Miller each had 11 for Grandview (10-6).
Miami Schoolhouse Prep 65, Hollywood McArthur 63
Five-foot-9 senior guard Shiedrice Pierre (pictured) led three Wolfpack players in double figures with 20 points. Schoolhouse Prep led 39-23 at the half. McArthur cut the lead to one in the fourth quarter before the Wolfpack were able to hold off the Mustangs.
Schoolhouse Prep, which started the year 1-4, is now 10-6.
“Put together a little bit of a streak now,” Schoolhouse Prep coach Colin Campbell said. “It’s been great to kind of figure out our identity and figure out which rotations work and what doesn’t. We also had a few injuries early in the year. Shiedrice Pierre, who was big tonight, and No. 3 Jose-Luis Benitez they both were injured all the way up until Dec. 15. So, having them back has given us a reboot.”
Benitez, a junior guard, and 6-9 2020 Ange Dibwa added 11 each for SHP.
“He’s a big-time athlete,” Campbell said of Dibwa. “He’s a big-time player. He’s got a long way to go in his development but I think he’s easily a mid-major to high-major prospect. We just have to keep developing his footwork, his touch and he’s got the one thing you can’t teach, which is a motor.”
Benitez is going on an unofficial visit to FGCU on Monday,
McArthur coach Warren Gale did not coach in the game. Rahmel Davis led the Mustangs (12-7) with 13 points.
Miami High 50, St. Thomas Aquinas 49 (OT)
Sophomore Justin Neely‘s bucket with 6.8 seconds remaining in overtime sent Miami High past St. Thomas Aquinas.
Neely had 17 points along with sophomore guard James McBride. 6-6 sophomore Taderrius Davis added 16 points. Only three players scored for the Stingarees.
Nova Southeastern 2019 recruit Shane Hunter and fellow senior R.J. Taylor had 12 points apiece for St. Thomas.
Victors drop out
Defending Class 2A state champion Miami Christian had to drop out of Monday’s game with Wellington. The Victors reportedly had too many games scheduled for the season.
South Broward is taking Miami Christian’s spot.
