They established a gap as big as 21 points right before the second half. Katy tried to inch their way back in the fourth quarter, but the Mavericks of Morton Ranch had too much star power for Katy to handle. Katy had not beat Morton Ranch in their last five contests and there was not any difference this time around.

Player Breakdown
L.J. Cryer • 6’0” • PG • Morton Ranch • 2020
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cryer came into the game leading the district in scoring with 26.7 PPG. He was aggressive offensively from the jump scoring 20 first half points. The four-star guard is the ultimate break starter when he utilizes his speed and pushes the ball from the backcourt. Each time Cryer led the break, he blew by defenders on his way to the rim and either scored or drew fouls. His elite scoring draws attention to himself, which opens up scoring opportunities for his teammates. The speedy bucket-getter finished with 32 points, seven assists, and seven boards in the district win.
Adrian Caldwell • 6’4” • SF • Morton Ranch • 2020
The junior transfer has fit right in with the Mavericks and gives them another offensive option at the wing spot. Caldwell was constantly at the right spot at the right time for putbacks and easy scores off of great lane dives to the basket. He is a strong and athletic forward who slashes and finishes through contact at the cup. He excited the crowd with his ability to get off the floor with ease and elevate for dunks and rebounds. Caldwell was a constant lob target who played physical and was active on the defensive end. He scored 18 points, grabbed multiple rebounds, and dished out four assists in the contest.
Steven Fontenette • 6’4” • SF • Katy • 2019
The unsigned senior, Fontenette scored inside and out and does it all for the Tigers. He put the ball on the floor and scored around the basket. The forward always looked to initiate contact and get to the charity stripe. He even stepped out and hit two stationary jumpers from behind the arc. The part of his game that stood out the most was his poise when bringing the ball up the court and initiating the offense for his team. Fontenette is a prospect who schools need to jump on because of the value he provides at both forward spots.
Justus Mouton • 6’3” • SG • Katy • 2019
Mouton did a lot of damage at the charity stripe, going 9-10 from the foul line in the first half. He did all he could in the second half to keep his team in the game with his timely shots from long distance. The unsigned senior guard has had a great season thus far and is making the most of his last year of high school basketball.
