There was good size on the floor and an impressive amount of skill on each team. Some of the best juniors in the state were on display, which kept an otherwise slow game, entertaining. Mt. Si came away with the double digit victory in the low scoring affair.
5 Takeaways:
There were some SHOOTERS on the floor
The three juniors on the floor might have the three smoothest shooting strokes in the entire state, regardless of class. 2020 6’7 SG (and growing) Tyler Patterson has outstanding footwork going into his shot off the catch and bounce. 2020 6’6 SG Peter Erickson has an absolutely beautiful jump shot. He shoots the three effortlessly and he has one of the best mid range pull ups in the state. 2020 6’6 CG Jabe Mullins is as good of a shooter as he is athlete. He also shoots the three with ease and possess the best handle of the three at this stage.
Mount Si is going to do damage in the playoffs
They have solid size across the board, they play a physical brand of basketball and they can shoot the three ball. They play a lot of man-to-man and communicate well. Their help side is there and they’re going to need all the help side they can get when play Gonzaga Prep or Federal Way. If their three ball is going, they are really tough to beat.
Mount Si has two freshman to keep an eye on
It is not always easy to spot the young talent in the varsity setting, but with a watchful eye one can spot Mt. Si’s two freshman playing some meaningful minutes. 2022 5’9 PG Bennett O’Connor is a solid point guard with some shiftiness to his game. He operates pretty well coming off the ball screen and has steadily improved as the high school has gone along. 2022 6’5 W Quin Patterson has a smooth shooting stroke. His frame is still changing as he grows, but it’s quite possible he could reach 6’8 or so. He could potentially be the best prospect on the entire team when it’s all said and done. They will be two to watch in coming years!
Mt. Si vs. Enumclaw was one of the cleanest games I saw all year
By “clean” I mean the plays were well-executed, the players played hard, both teams had similar playing styles and they ran through their sets. There was a lot of off-ball movement, screening and cutting. Mt. Si just had a little bit more shooting and fire power to help them win this half court basketball game.
Tyler Patterson is growing and improving
The 6’7 junior shooting guard continues to improve year by year and even since the start of the season. His body is slowly but surely starting to fill out. It has allowed him to play more physical and he looks more confident as a result. His shooting form is elite and he has also improved at creating separation off the bounce. His defense was very good in this game, spending some time face guarding Peter Erickson and not allowing him to get easy looks. He may grow another inch and as his body continues to fill out, his recruitment is only going to take another step forward.
