Triple-doubles and 50-point performances are sought-after for these “Premier Performers” lists. We also like high efficiency games and total stat-stuffers. Below, you’ll find 10 striking performances from this past week.
Andrew Gibb, St. Edmond — 46 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
This was one of the more unique performances of the season, not just because of the extremely high point-total Gibb put up, but also because it came in a loss. And not just any loss, but a blowout loss, 84-65 to St. Edmond. Still, the 46 points are an accomplishment, especially since he did it on an efficient 19-26 shooting.
Kobe Greider, Belle Plaine — 31 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 steals
This was a stellar performance on both sides of the ball. The 31 points came on a solid 14-21 shooting. The six steals were are a season-high for Greider, who’s averaging 1.9 steals per game this season to go along with a team-best 17.5 points.
Cole Pederson, Central Decatur — 10 points, 12 rebounds, 12 blocks
Usually triple-doubles come in the form of double digit points, rebounds and assists, not this one though. It’s the 12 blocks here that make this stat-line pop. Pederson had more blocks in this one than he had field-goal tries. He was 4-8 from the floor.
Evan Gauger, Indianola — 39 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
In a win against Newton, this Northern Iowa recruit pieced together one of the finer shooting games we’ve ever seen from a guard. Gauger was 17-20 from the floor in the 76-33 shellacking. What’s more impressive, he scored 37 points the game prior in a win against Urbandale, on 16-25 shooting.
Kris Murray, Cedar Rapids Prairie — 32 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists
The Hawks pulled off the upset of Cedar Falls last Tuesday and it was thanks in large part to Murray shooting lights out. He was 4-5 from deep in the double-overtime win. The four steals were a major difference-maker in the big win, too. Murray and his twin brother Keegan are two of the very best unsigned prospects in Iowa.
Issa Samake, Grand View Christian — 26 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocks, 3 assists
The Drake recruit is meeting his lofty expectations so far this season, and it’s the shooting that has been particularly eye-opening. This game was a reflection of his efficiencies from beyond the arc, his 6-7 shooting performance from deep put him at just a bit under 50 percent for the year. Not bad for a guy known for his dunking.
Jace Davidson, Pocahontas Area — 14 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, 3 steals
The future Morningside Mustangs point guard is a triple-double threat each time he takes the floor, and he accomplished the feat during a Pocahontas Area win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The Indians scored 99 points in that one, Davidson was the catalyst. He went for 33 points, nine rebounds and seven assists the next night out in a big win over Bishop Garrigan.
Tyreke Locure, Des Moines North — 29 points, 10 steals, 8 assists
Once again, the amazing Tyreke Locure posts a stat-line we simply can’t ignore. This isn’t even his best game of the season, far from it; still, the 10 steals are enough to warrant a double-take, and that’s what makes this stat-line pop. The eight assists are nice, and the 29 points are, amazingly, under his season scoring average.
Cooper DeJean, OABCIG — 16 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists, 3 blocks
The sophomore is having a monster season, every week he’s doing something that begs to be written about. This time, it’s a triple-double for the athletic 6-foot guard, and an impressive one at that. He achieved the feat with plenty of clearance. And he added three blocks for good measure.
Reece Held, Murray — 30 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds
Murray is off to a 10-3 start this season and Held has been at the forefront of that success. The 5’9 point guard is averaging 16.4 points and 6.0 assists per game this season. He nearly doubled each average in a win over Melcher-Dallas last Tuesday night.
