Triple-doubles and 50-point performances are sought-after for these “Premier Performers” lists. We also like high efficiency games and total stat-stuffers. Below, you’ll find 10 striking performances from this past week.
Cole Henry, Oskaloosa — 43 points (20-27 FGs), 15 rebounds, 2 steals
It’s been a special career at Oskaloosa for this senior point-forward, and this was his best performances yet as a prep. We say yet because the season is still relatively young, and this 6’9 senior has the skill-set the pop off like he did against Indianola many more times.
Xavier Foster, Oskaloosa — 13 points, 19 rebounds, 2 steals, 7 blocks
This is actually a pretty pedestrian line for the blue-chip prospect, but a standard line from him is a special one for anyone else. The seven blocks are the most impressive part of this stat-line, but the 19 boards are impressive, too. He’s averaging 6.6 blocks and 12.5 rebounds per game this season.
Bryce Coppock, Newell-Fonda — 42 points, 3 steals
The big scoring effort came in a loss, albeit a narrow one, to Pocahontas Area, but anytime a guy can pour in 40 against a good team like that, it’s impressive. Coppock, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, is averaging a whopping 31.2 points per game this season.
Trey Baker, Martensdale-St Mary’s — 40 points, 16 rebounds
This kid is only a sophomore, and he’s emerging as one of the best players in his class this season. Martensdale St. Mary’s is off to a 9-1 start this season, this 40-point gem came in a 64-55 win over Central Decatur.
Nathan Michels, Benton — 38 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals
This is one of the most improved players in Iowa, and he’s proved that on several different occasions so far this winter. The 6’4 guard poured in these 38 points on the road at Maquoketa. He’s averaging 22 points per game this season.
Cody Westcott, Center Point-Urbana — 32 points, 14 rebounds
The 6’5 forward was terrific during a win over Williamsburg, his team’s fourth in its last five games. He was a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line and was especially effective on the boards, pulling down a game-high 14 of them.
Bryce Phelps, Denver — 17 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 2 steals
Whenever we come across a triple-double, we’ll showcase the performance on this list. Phelps is having the type of season where he’s a candidate to get one each night out; this one came in a Cyclones win over Hudson. Phelps is averaging 15.3 points, 7.2 assists, 3.3 steals and 6.5 rebounds per game this season.
Tyreke Locure, Des Moines North — 39 points, 14-14 FTs, 10 assists, 4 steals
The South Alabama recruit occupies his usual spot on this list, and he’ll be here more often than not this season. This particular Locure gem came in a 91-78 win over crosstown rival Des Moines Roosevelt. His Polar Bears are winners of five straight after a 3-2 start.
Brady Happel, Dunkerton — 21 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists
One of two triple-doubles we were able to find from last week in Iowa, and Happel is another guy who is a candidate to achieve the feat each time he steps on the court. This one came during an 87-66 win over Meskwaki Settlement School. Happel is averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 assists, 4.7 steals and 7.5 rebounds this season.
Noah Carter, Dubuque, Senior — 34 points, 13-19 FGs, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks
It’s been an impressive season for this athletic Northern Iowa recruit, and he pieced together one of his finer games to date during a 69-50 win over Rockford East (IL). The Rams won that game 69-50, they’re now winners of five straight after a disappointing 1-2 start to the season.
