Iowa’s Player of the Week Poll (5)
Trent Williamson (Earlham)
When healthy, Williamson has proven time and again that he’s one of the best players in Iowa. Last week, Earlham got 2019 started off with a pair of wins over I-35 and Iowa Christian Academy, the 6’3 guard averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in the Ws.
Cole Henry (Oskaloosa)
The Indians started their year off with a big win over a very talented Indianola squad, and Henry, a Northern Iowa recruit, had maybe his best game ever as a prep. He scored 43 points on 20-27 shooting. The 6’9 forward ripped down 15 rebounds and swiped two steals as well.
Michael Sweeney (Waukon)
One of the state’s best scorers this season, Sweeney has been lighting up the scoreboard through nine games, averaging 26 points per game. Last week, the Indians lost a pair of close ones, but not because of Sweeney. He scored 42 in a two-point loss to Charles City, and also swiped four steals. He scored 24 and swiped four more steals the next day against Dike-New Hartford.
Christian Stanislav (Glenwood)
A 6-foot-4 shooting guard, Stanislav helped the Rams win a state title last season as the team’s top scorer. This season, he’s upped his average by 10 points, and is averaging 25.3 per game. He started off the new year with a bang, scoring 30 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in a win over Kuemper Catholic.
Brett Sears (Harlan)
It was a great start to the year not only for Harlan, but for Sears, too. The 6’2 forward helped the Cyclones come away with a pair of wins over St. Albert and Atlantic. Sears, who is averaging 17.3 points per game this season, averaged 25 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the two Ws.
