Hard Work Region Preview: Michigan Majors
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Hard Work Region and here’s a look at the Michigan Majors.
Michigan Majors will compete in the 13u, 14u,15U and 16u age divisions of the Hard Work Region and will be at Havoc in the Heartland, The Summer Challenge and the Hard Work Region Finals.
I recently caught up with Michigan Majors Director Jaret Thomas to learn more about his program and what to expect from the Majors this season:
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
We established the Michigan Majors in 2016 with a group of 14U (2021) boys. We are approaching our third year of operation and in 2019 we will field teams at the 11U-16U levels. Our program was initially built on the idea of instilling confidence in young men and preparing them for high school basketball. We were committed to providing high quality practices and training sessions led by experienced coaches and trainers. We could have never predicted the support we have received and the number of high character/talented players who have come to our program.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
In 2019, our goal is to grow while maintaining the standards that have made us successful. We have great momentum as a program and many exciting changes that will allow us to offer more opportunities to players in our area. We are looking forward to inviting high character players and coaches into our program who will add immediate value.
What is your program’s mission each year?
WIN- Work Hard, Improve Daily, Never Give Up. Our players will compete every practice, game, and possession but the scoreboard will not be the validation of our effort. We will control the things we can control and celebrate improvement no matter how big or small. We are building young men who understand that this game will someday come to an end but how we prepare and how we respond are life skills that never expire.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
You will want to watch our teams play. We have 2021’s and 2022’s who are playing very well at the high school varsity level. The 2019 travel season will be a breakout campaign for a number of our student-athletes- stay tuned!
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
We wanted to provide our players an opportunity to compete on a national stage. We have done well against really tough teams in Michigan and I felt the players deserved an opportunity to build on that. The organization and support from Prep Hoops has been great and we are looking forward to competing on the circuit in 2019.
