Hahn & Oden: Thousand-Point Cats
Piedmont senior Hunter Oden became the latest member of the prestigious one-thousand point club Thursday night in a 16-point performance against Edmond North in the first round of the Carl Albert Titan Classic.
One thousand points in a career is sweet, but even sweeter when you get to share it with a teammate.
Less than a week earlier, Piedmont senior Dylan Hahn also reached one thousand career points in a Friday night win over Guthrie.
“We wanted to do it the same game,” Oden joked, “but I fouled out six points away.”
Oden and Hahn have played with each other since middle school and stepped into starting roles in their sophomore year.
“I never really thought about (scoring one thousand),” said Hahn. “It just never really crossed my mind.”
“I never really thought about it until this year, pretty much,” said Oden.
Despite accomplishing the feat, the Piedmont duo shares a common sentiment; it’s all about the team’s success.
“It’s really cool to know you’ve got to a thousand points throughout your past four years,” said Hahn. “But it’s still a team sport.”
“It’s a pretty cool individual award,” said Oden, “but it’s about the team so the goal is still state (tournament).”
With the playoffs looming, the seventeenth-ranked Wildcats (6-7) have their eyes set on one goal: to hoist the Gold Ball come March. The Wildcats will finish off the Titan Classic before finishing off the season with six games; three home and three on the road. Three of those matchups will come against ranked opponents.
“We’ve had a lot of turnover on our team and we’re really starting to come together,” said Hahn. “I still think we can go make a run in the playoffs.”
With the achievement, both players had plenty of people gratitude to attribute.
“My parents and teammates,” said Oden.
Him, for sure,” Oden said as he motioned towards Hahn.
“My parents and all of the coaches I’ve had over the years,” said Hahn.
“And Hunter.”
