The Big Reds had won 58 straight OK Black conference match ups going into this crosstown rivalry. The Rockets showed they know how to respond to the bell by putting together a gutsy performance against Muskegon and came out with the 63-59 overtime win.
It’s been a while since the Rockets beat the Big Reds and it appeared as if history would repeat itself with the Big Reds taking a 9 point lead into the final frame. But a couple of turnovers and a couple of transition baskets allowed the Rockets to get back into the game and even take the lead. The Big Reds tied it and pushed it to overtime. But the Rockets controlled the overtime from the start and completed the upset.
The win improves Reeths-Puffer to 10-1 and gives them momentum and confidence rolling into the second half of the season. Muskegon falls to 4-3, but don’t count them out as they are well coached and have played some formidable opponents early. The city of Muskegon is going to have a couple teams making some noise come playoff time.
