Full schedule of the ARS Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest
Friday will mark the first day of the ARS Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest. The ARS Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest is a showcase event that is played in four different cities around the country. Tampa Bay, Florida; Dallas, Texas; Washington D.C.; and Memphis, TN are the four stops that have been scheduled for this season.
There are teams from all over the country that will be participating in this event. Here’s the full schedule, plus some of my takes on some of the games that should be entertaining from start to finish.
Friday, January 4th at Olive Branch High School
5:00 p.m. Knoxville Bearden vs. Hamilton Heights
Both of these teams have solid guard play. Senior point guard Ques Glover leads the Bulldogs, while junior point guard Jordan Rawls leads the Hawks. I expect both Glover and Rawls to go at one another for the entire game.
6:30 p.m. Whitehaven vs. Whitney Young (IL.)
8:00 p.m. Olive Branch vs. Chicago Simeon (IL.)
The ‘Quistors have won five of their last six games. Olive Branch seems to be hitting its stride with the second half of the season about to get into full swing. D.J. Jeffries, Cameron Matthews, Joe Cooper, and Wes Taylor realize another solid win would boost their confidence even more for another title run.
Briarcrest High School
6:30 p.m. Bartlett vs. Meadowcreek (GA)
The Panthers are riding high right now, with a five-game winning streak. Bartlett hasn’t lost since its 85-83 defeat to Hamilton Heights in the Bartlett Invitational on Dec. 14, 2018.
8:00 p.m. Memphis East vs. Holy Spirit (GA)
The Mustangs’ guard play has been up and down this season, with seniors Antonio Thomas and Dee Merriweather running the show. James Wiseman and Malcolm Dandridge have to get touches in the post. Will this be the game that the guards finally start showing some consistency?
Saturday, January 5th at Briarcrest High School
11:00 a.m. Southwind vs. Knoxville Bearden
The Jaguars doesn’t have a guard like Ques Glover. Ashton Taylor is one of the veterans at point guard. Add in guards Ashton Smith and Dionte Anding, but the both of them, including Taylor, have struggled once too many times this season on the offensive end. Taylor thrives on getting steals that leads to easy points in transition. It will be interesting to see him guard Glover.
12:30 p.m. Raleigh-Egypt vs. Whitney Young (IL.)
2:00 p.m. Brentwood Academy vs. Meadowcreek
3:30 p.m. Wooddale vs. Chicago Simeon (IL.)
5:00 p.m. Briarcrest vs. Holy Spirit
6:30 p.m. Memphis East vs. Hamilton Heights
The last time these two teams met, James Wiseman was in foul trouble and Jordan Rawls torched the Mustangs’ guards for 34 points. Will Memphis East have an answer for Rawls this time?
8:00 p.m. Olive Branch vs. Bartlett
Both teams have physical guards. The duo of Joe Cooper/Wes Taylor against Sylvester Thompson/Wynne Brown Jr. will be an interesting one to watch.
