Friday’s Games to Watch
Six games to watch during Friday’s WIAA boy’s basketball action…
Green Bay Preble (8-3) at Green Bay Southwest (12-0)
Southwest looks to strengthen its grip on the Fox River Classic Conference and keep their undefeated season alive. Preble is one of the biggest surprises in the state this season and sits just two games back of the league lead. Senior guard Joshua Nicklaus (22.9 ppg) looks to help the Hornets pull off the upset against Will Pytleski (19.8 ppg), Lucas Stieber (14.5 ppg) and company.
Mauston (9-2) at Wisconsin Dells (10-3)
This has implications in Division 3 as well as the South Central Conference. Both teams enter with a 4-0 record in league play and one will walk out with sole possession of first place.
Brookfield East (9-2) at Sussex Hamilton (8-3)
Two top 10 ranked teams square off in Greater Metro play. Hamilton, the No. 1 ranked team in Division 1, sits atop the league with a 7-0 mark. Riley Le Tourneau (22.6) and the Spartans already have one big upset under their belt, taking down Martin Luther in December. Patrick Baldwin Jr. (17.2 ppg) looks to extend the Chargers’ five-game winning streak.
Hudson (8-3) at Eau Claire Memorial (7-4)
Hudson and Eau Claire Memorial are two of four teams tied atop the Big Rivers Conference. A couple of potential first-team All-Conference picks in Caden Boser (19.7 ppg) and Keyser Helterbrand (16.1 ppg) will square off in this one.
Madison Memorial (9-2) at Madison La Follette (10-3)
The winner may jump into the 10 in next week’s rankings. More importantly, the victory stays alive in the Big Eight title race. Memorial took a thrilling 68-64 victory back on Dec. 1, but the Lancers were without second-leading scorer Donneil Gray (16.2 ppg).
Mineral Point (9-3) at Darlington (13-0)
A win would tie Mineral Point atop the SWAL standings with unbeaten Darlington. The Redbirds, the top-ranked team in Divison 4, won the first meeting 63-53. Can Carter Lancaster (16.3) and company complete the regular season sweep of Brayden Dailey (20.8 ppg) and Isaac Lindsey (20.6 ppg) and the Pointes?
Others: Burlington at Elkhorn, Racine St. Catherine’s at Racine Lutheran, Bruce at Birchwood, Germantown at Brookfield Central, Waupun at Berlin, Oshkosh North at Neenah
