The class of 2022 is full of young players making a statement about what lies ahead in Michigan high school basketball.
Emoni Bates (G/F, Ypsilanti Lincoln)
What more needs to be said about Bates? He’s the best freshman in the country and Michigan’s most highly touted prospect since Chris Webber. Bates can do it all at an elite level: Rebound, shoot the 3, handle the ball, and dish to his teammates.
Clarkston Backcourt: Fletcher Loyer (G) and Keegan Waslick (PG)
These 2 have the potential makings of a legendary backcourt. Division 1 schools may just want to double dip at Clarkston in a few years. Waslick is a prolific passer and a steady floor general. Loyer is a do-it-all guard who can score and dish at a high level.
Mason Docks (CG, Williamston)
Docks has found an important role on a talented and deep Williamston squad. He’s an athletic ball handler who can play the point guard and deliver the ball to his teammates, or play shooting guard and put points on the board. Docks is a high IQ player with a big time future ahead of him.
JaVaughn Hannah (SG, Mt. Clemens)
Hannah has been an absolute monster so far this season. He’s had multiple 30+ point games and is one of the top pure scoring freshmen. Hannah is smooth on the dribble and runs the floor very well.
Tharren Hill (G, Pershing)
Hill has been key to a solid start by Pershing this season. He’s a legitimate scoring threat who can also pass with accuracy and flare. Hill has been extremely consistent up and down the stat sheet so far.
Orlando Lovejoy (PG, Summit Academy)
Lovejoy has exploded onto the Michigan high school basketball scene, often finding himself as the best player on the floor. He can finish at the basket or pull up for a mid range jumper. Lovejoy can attack the rim with a smooth crossover.
Ty Rodgers (G/F, Grand Blanc)
I’m a firm believer that Rodgers is a top 20 talent nationally. He’s athletic, smooth, and gets it done on both ends of the court. Rodgers is a poised player who understands the game. Even with his blue collar demeanor, he’s a highlight reel waiting to happen.
Kareem Rozier (PG, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s)
Rozier is a leader and a pass first point guard. He passes the ball with confidence and delivers the ball on a string. Rozier has lightning fast feet and is a solid 3 point shooter. He’s quick and electric, making him fun to watch play.
Derrick Voltz (SG, Carrollton)
If you haven’t heard of Voltz…….you will. He’s a superior athlete that can get up and down the floor. He can get hot from deep, shooting over defenders. Voltz has turned himself into a weapon on defense this season.
Josh Wallace (G/F, Williamston)
Wallace is athletic and plays well in a transition game. He’s a good shooter with no limit on his range. Wallace can put the ball on the floor and take the ball to the bucket as well. Wallace will be a marquee name in Michigan in the coming years.
Alex Watters (G, Lansing Catholic)
I’ve been very high on this kid since his big grassroots season. Watters has a high basketball IQ and has a team first view of the game. Watters is a solid ball handler and a top scoring threat for his team.
