NORWALK, CA—Harvey Kitani, the architect of the Rolling Hills Prep State Preview, put together a nice collection of teams with intriguing stroylines. However, no one expected Camarillo to pull off one of the biggest surprises of this hoops season—it’s upset of Mater Dei. Adding to the excitement was a number of impressive performances by super junior Mady Sissoko (Wasatch Academy) and up-and-coming Sedrick Altman (Colony).
Tristan Enaruna (Wasatch Academy)
2019, PF, 6-foot-8, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the bigger surprises of the event was the play of Enaruna. The skilled 4-man is an inside-out threat. He has solid ball skills and soft shooting touch to the 3-point stripe. Put this skill package with an ideal D1 frame (long arms and broad shoulders), he should have
Amir Adams (Santa Monica)
2019, SG, 6-foot-3, 180 pounds
Adams is coming on strong. D 1 potentialJoel’s Take: One of the bigger sleepers in the senior class who should garner college interest heading into the spring. His frame has filled out, has good length, and he plays at a good pace. His shot is tight out to the stripe and his overall game and demeanor projects well to the next level.
Anthony Thomas (Rancho Verde)
2019, PF, 6-foot-4, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: Tory San Antonio and Jaxen Turner are the headline guys for Rancho Verde, but Thomas is the glue. He plays through contact, has a nose for the ball, and his motor plays hot at both ends of the floor.
Denim Dawson-Jones (Colony)
2021, SG, 6-foot-5, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: Brenton Knapper is not the only impressive sophomore prospect on Colony as Dawson-Jones checks the boxes off for a Division 1 prospect as well. Long arms, budding skills, and a bevy of bounce describes this young blossoming prospect.
Richie Sanders (Wasatch Academy)
2020, SG, 6-foot-5, 180 pounds
Joel’s Take: Sanders is best described as a “basketball player.” Good frame with ideal length and his burst is solid off the dribble. He has a tight middle game, moves well without the ball, and he is always engaged.
