SANTA ANA, CA.—The 24th Nike Extravaganza is yet again chock full of quality players and teams and right off the bat Oak Hill Academy demonstrated their prowess with a dismantling of Santa Margarita 94-67. Cole Anthony (Oak Hill Academy) was the headliner of the night, but it would be 6-foot-3 junior Cam Taylor (Oak Hill Academy) who would put on a show reminiscent of former Detroit Piston star Joe Dumars.
Wilhelm Breidenbach (Mater Dei)
2021, PF, 6-foot-8, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: The pick-and-pop 4-man continues to evolve into one of the best prospects in his class out west. He plays with moxie and composure as he has the ability to score on the block or step out and swish jump shots from the 3-point line.
Derrien Carter-Hollinger (Foothills Christian)
2021, SG, 6-foot-2, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: The younger brother of Montana-bound Derrick Carter-Hollinger, has a game of his won. The slick lefty who plays with a chip on his shoulder is a nifty passer and handler as well as a crafty finisher. His face-up skills in the half-court are evolving and he is tough to stop in transition while attacking the paint.
Zaon Collins (Bishop Gorman,NV)
2021, PG, 6-foot, 155 pounds
Joel’s Take: The ultimate playmaker and a throwback to the past when point guards were pass-first facilitators—that is exactly what Collins is. He has blitzing speed, a crafty handle, and he can get to the rim at will. He advances the ball as well as any guard out West and his decison making is high-level.
Aiden Prukop (Mater Dei)
2020, SG, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: Prukop had some injury issues coming into this event, but he looked healthy to us as he showed nice explosion off the dribble and an ability to score off the bounce. He gets good lift on his jump shot and he it’s getting more consistent as well.
Dylan Cardwell (Oak Hill Academy)
2020, C, 6-foot-9, 225 pounds
Joel’s Take: Cardwell comes off the bench for Oak Hill and he showed enough in his play to warrant Mid-to-High Major interest. He has long arms, broad shoulders, and solid hands. He is explosive in the paint as a finisher and rim protector. Continued work on his face-up skills at the elbow as well as on the block (footwork) will improve his stock.
