SANTA ANA, CA.—The 24th Nike Extravaganza is yet again chock full of quality players and teams and right off the bat Oak Hill Academy demonstrated their prowess with a dismantling of Santa Margarita 94-67. Cole Anthony (Oak Hill Academy) was the headliner of the night, but it would be 6-foot-3 junior Cam Taylor (Oak Hill Academy) who would put on a show reminiscent of former Detroit Piston star Joe Dumars.
Chance Michels (Bishop Gorman)
2019, PG, 6-foot-1, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: Each time out, Michels continues to show growth in his game. The true point guard runs the team with aplomb with impeccable two-handed passes and at this event his jump shot looked tight out to the 3-point stripe.
Jaron Rillie (Dos Pueblos)
2019, PG, 6-foot-1, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: The son of UCSB Assistant Coach John Rillie has a game of his own. The slick lefty snaps nifty passes to open shooters and cutters and there always on the money. Good length and high basketball IQ are part of the package as well.
Kendall McHugh (Santa Margarita)
2019, PG, 6-foot, 155 pounds
Joel’s Take: Santa Margarita did not have a particular good game against Oak Hill Academy, other than McHugh’s scoring explosion. While Jake Kyman and Max Agbonkpolo struggled from the field, McHugh was on fire from the field and played with zero fear while attacking the lane.
Joshua Adoh (St. John Bosco)
2019, WF, 6-foot-3, 185 pounds
Adoh is a tough-minded scorer.Joel’s Take: The burly Adoh is a soft-spoken scoring assassin. He can knock in the deep 3-point shot and gets excellent lift or use his physical frame to finish through contact. He plays with moxie and affects the game at both ends.
Dathan Satchell (Modesto Christian)
2019, CG, 6-foot-3, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the more intriguing seniors I’ve seen at this event was Satchell. He has great size, good speed/quickness, and his passing prowess is high-level. A true playmaker who can score some as well.
