SANTA ANA, CA.—The 24th Nike Extravaganza is yet again chock full of quality players and teams and right off the bat Oak Hill Academy demonstrated their prowess with a dismantling of Santa Margarita 94-67. Cole Anthony (Oak Hill Academy) was the headliner of the night, but it would be 6-foot-3 junior Cam Taylor (Oak Hill Academy) who would put on a show reminiscent of former Detroit Piston star Joe Dumars.
Ethan Anderson (Fairfax)
2019, SG/WF, 6-foot-3, 220 pounds
Joel’s Take: Anderson has had an outstanding senior season as he has been the catalyst to the Lions’ success. The powerful wing-type plays with a hot motor, attacks the rim with power and dexterity, and he has improved his 3-point shot.
Julian Rishwain (Sherman Oaks/Notre Dame)
2019, SG, 6-foot-5, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the most potent one-two punches in So-Cal is dynamic duo of 2020 Ziaire Williams and the sharp shooting Rishwain. His team was taken to the woodshed in the 1st half, but Rishwain came out took the game over in the 2nd half with timely shooting and moxie. Somehow Boston College snuck in yet again—like in years past with Jared Dudley and Craig Smith—to snag another potential gem from the West Coast.
Tory San Antonio (Rancho Verde)
2019, SG, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: This Cal State Fullerton signee is about one thing—winning. The rugged 2-guard plays the game with tenacity and he impacts the game in a number of ways. Active hands on defense, rebounding in traffic, and an improved jump shot have been part of his repretoire.
Derrick Carter-Hollinger (Foothills Christian)
2019, SG, 6-foot-2, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: “Old School” is the best way to describe this mid-range scoring machine. His efficiency was not up to his usual standards, but this broad shouldered wing is a natural scorer from the mid-range. Improving his 3-point shot (low trajectory) is the next step in his developement.
Malik Salahuddin (Long Beach Poly)
2019, PG, 6-foot, 155 pounds
Joel’s Take: Speed, speed, and more speed describes this electric point guard prospect. His burst in the open court is impressive as he gets to the rim at will. However, at this event he consistently nailed a number of jump shots. One to watch heading into the spring.
