Each one will contain four prospects that we will dive into their stats and highlight films spotlight guys as we get them sent in. If you would like to be added, please send up stats and an embeddable film. Here is our four-pack this week looking at Jake Moynihan, Jaden Swiderek, Colson Montgomery, and Jack Wininger.
#21 Jake Moynihan – 6’5 PF 2021 – Seton Catholic (IN)
GP: 18
PPG: 13.6
RPG: 13.2
APG: 1.3
SPG: 1.4
BPG: 4.1
Thoughts: Moynihan looks bigger and stronger than the last time we saw him. Physically, he’s using his body more to his game and was tough in and around the rim. He’s more aggressive searching for his shots more often. He’s shooting 40% from the field but just 18% from three and averaging 2.5 threes attempted per game. That is a concern but realistically, he’s more of a post that can face-up than a stretch right now. He was driving the ball a lot more and he’s considerably better now than a year ago. His rebounding ability is great and is getting a ton of second-chance points it looks like. Oddly, he looks almost ambidextrous as he shoots set shots with his left hand but floaters and post finishes are primarily with his right hand although he will finish with his left at times. The level of competition is also a concern and will be helped by AAU and playing at a higher level but the fact that he’s averaging a double-double as a sophomore is pretty impressive in any context.
#3 Jaden Swiderek – 5’8 PG 2020 – Seton Catholic (IN)
GP: 15
PPG: 11.8
RPG: 1.2
APG: 1.7
SPG: 1.5
Thoughts: Swiderek is a smaller guard but can score it pretty well. Built more as a shooter and an opportunistic driver, he’s shot as many threes as twos this year. He’s not particularly quick but adept in the lane to get his shot off although he is right-hand dominant at this point. He’s an excellent shooter who has hit 40% from behind the arc this season, going mainly off the catch but seems to be able to get into a better pull-up spot if he needs to. Probably too small to play off the ball so dribble-drive will be the question moving forward and if he can be a little more deceptive. The assist-to-turnover ratio is still in the positive but needs to be better for some long term success at the position.
#23 Colson Montgomery – 6’4 SF 2021 – Southridge (IN)
GP: 17
PPG: 20.3
RPG: 6.6
APG: 1.8
SPG: 0.8
Thoughts: Colson is easily one of the best multi-sport athletes we have seen in a while. The talented wing is also a baseball and football talent but if he chose basketball, he could be pretty good and a coveted player. With great size, Montgomery is a very efficient scorer that can rack up points pretty quick with a great jumper and as one of the best slashers in the state. He’s so athletic and slick through traffic, he can drive through pretty much anyone right now and has the size and the length to finish over the top. He shoots 39% from three having taken 61 of them this year already. However, he shoots 69% from 2 which is kind of ridiculous for a non-post player. He’s done that on 156 attempts this year. He’s a capable and talented defender and has a smooth but aggressive game. He’s willing to put in the effort on both ends of the floor but never looks sped up or gassed. Again, he could probably go a number of directions but I do wonder how good he would be if and when he chooses to focus on one sport because he’s pretty good as it is right now.
#42 Jack Wininger – 6’7 PF 2019 – North Daviess (IN)
PPG: 12.1
RPG: 9.8
Thoughts: Wininger is a big, strong post player who has been really effective and around the paint. He’s a guy that can carve out space well and finishes well at both sides of the rim with either hand. He will need to work on his post positioning because a lot of times he’s a full step or so beyond the paint and up higher where he has to put the ball on the floor to get to the rim. If he can clean that up, his overall effectiveness should take a step forward. However, he has been pretty solid when he has had to dribble. Not a speed guy or someone that is really going to stretch the floor right now but does play under control and protects the ball on his drives and shots pretty well. He’s an area rebounder who can move a bit to go get the ball and seems to have decent hands. Once in college, he should be able to tighten up the frame and add a little more speed and strength that could go a little farther with him than others as a little quickness could help him to fully stretch to the wing because he does look like he can shoot well, just that it isn’t a big part of his game yet.
