Killeen Shoemaker hosted Waco Midway in a Central Texas district battle Tuesday night. Shoemaker held the lead throughout the match behind the improved outside shooting of J’Wan Roberts. He dominated on both ends and helped lead the Wolves of Shoemaker to a 65-53 victory. Shoemaker now sits on top of the district with a (12-1) record, while Midway stays tied for second with Killeen Ellison with a (9-3) record.
… MORE ON ROBERTS
J’Wan Roberts continues to impress me with the expansion of his offensive game. He has earned his coach’s trust and has been given the green light to fire from downtown. The southpaw connected on five out of the six threes he attempted. His inside-and-out potential offensively to go along with his defensive versatility will make him a valuable long-term player for Houston.
EZEDINMA STILL HAS WAYS TO GO
God’s Gift Ezedinma has been highly regarded by multiple state evaluators throughout his high school career. The junior forward plays hard and has a true nose for the ball. He is a terrific rebounder who could even become more dominant on the glass as he gets stronger. However, at this point he has showed little signs of improvement offensively. He tends to take questionable shots, has happy feet prior to making the right reads, and tends to not finish well inside. His approach to the game is respectable, however he must display signs of improvement offensively for his recruitment to pick up.
UP AND DOWN WITH MICHAEL JEFFERSON
Like multiple Division I coaches, I see the value in Michael Jefferson as a college prospect. He is blessed with great size for his position, possesses a natural feel for the game, and has the skillset and the potential to be extremely versatile at the next level. However, each time I’ve seen him, he has failed to consistently prove to me that he is a threat to knock down open shots. He must take it personal and work to become a player that cannot be helped off of when spotting up from deep. The three-star wing will get many good looks from three playing on the circuit this summer. College coaches will be watching to see if he can relied upon to convert.
… OTHER NOTES
- … Junior guard Nasir Kirk (Killeen Shoemaker) had a great performance from downtown. He knocked down four threes off the catch and scored 14 points overall in the win.
- … Unsigned senior Romeo Postell (Killeen Shoemaker) is a strong and athletic forward that does the dirty work on all areas of the floor. Postell defends, rebounds, and scores in the paint. He added nine points in the contest.
