MANZIE ASSERTS HIMSELF
SJC’s class of 2020 point guard John “Manzie” Wilson came to play from the jump in this one. One thing that stood out about Wilson was how quickly he would get to the other end after securing a defensive rebound. He gave unrelenting effort on both ends, and stayed aggressive offensively throughout the contest.
CURFMAN FORTIFIES D1 CASE
In a game where points came at a premium for Prep, Kamdyn Curfman was able to provide. Obviously St. John’s came into this game with a good plan to slow down the sharpshooting senior, but he found ways to get open both with his movement off the ball and with his ability to create separation off the bounce. Curfman shot well from the perimeter, but also mixed it up, demonstrating that he can finish high off the glass in traffic with an occasional floater.
MORSELL & MADDOX BECOMING DYNAMIC
Casey Morsell and Darius Maddox are known as scorers, but are both developing into complete all-around guards. Morsell is already a very good defender, and Maddox is catching up in that department, but both wings showed adeptness at creating for their teammates off the bounce. We should also point out that they did a nice job hitting the boards respectively.
RUSSELL SHOWS SIGNS
There is a lot to like about 2021 guard Zion Russell. His shot has really improved, and his ball-handling is not far behind. Russell is already a plus defender, and his athleticism speaks for itself. It will be a lot of fun to watch this young man continue to develop over the next couple of years.
SAVAGE CONTINUING STEADY PLAY
Devon Savage made the most of his minutes on Wednesday night, and this is nothing new as he’s been solid all season. The 2021 wing prospect, who has good defensive potential, played with a high motor and was efficient with the ball.
