Whether it be lateral quickness, raw speed, strength in the paint, or an insane vertical, being an explosive athlete is one of the best benefits a player can give his team. At the 2019 Bishop McGuinness classic, these were the most explosive players we were able to watch.
Drew Tennial 2019 Edmond Memorial W
It’s no surprise that tournament MVP Drew Tennial lands on this list for being one of the most explosive players present at this year’s BMCHS Classic. At 6-foot-5-inches and the frame of a linebacker, the Texas State signee came out and proved why he is regarded is one of the most explosive players in the state. He used his long wingspan and ridiculous bounce to get rebounds, contain ball-handlers, and finish over players and draw fouls in the process.
Jason Nolan 2020 Bishop McGuinness W
Six-foot-3-inch swingman Jason Nolan started Championship Saturday off right when he caught a lob at its apex and slammed one home on the first possession of the game against Choctaw. Of course, it takes more than one play to be named among the best at any skill, but that one definitely caught our attention. He used those same bunnies to get rebounds and defend guys in the lane as well.
Anthony Bowen 2021 Choctaw PG
For a 6-foot-2 sophomore, Choctaw floor general Anthony Bowen has serious bounce. He stood out for his display of athletic prowess against Bishop McGuinness in the seventh-place game. It is always impressive when athletic, fast, strong guys can also maintain some control in their game, especially when they are young; that was what Bowen did best. He led the Yellow Jackets in scoring in that game with 18 points.
JV Seat 2022 Edmond Memorial F
If you have not caught wind of Edmond Memorial freshman JV Seat yet, then you certainly will soon. Seat’s stellar inside play earned him all-tournament honors over the weekend. He held his own amongst some top-notch wings and forwards and did not allow anything easy inside. What makes Seat an explosive athlete is his combination of impressive strength and quickness. He moves with grace and control with the ball in the post and had a big impact on the game with inside scoring.
JD Ray 2019 Midwest City PG
Midwest City’s JD Ray once again displayed an incredible athletic skill set that he uses to create shots. The all-tournament selection and leading scorer for the Bombers has ridiculous lateral strength that he uses to get separation from defenders to score. Not many 5-foot-9 guys can get to the rack like Ray, either. He can easily blow by defenders and stop on a dime to pull up from mid range, or just pull one from deep. Despite losing in the third-place game to Norman North, he led both teams in scoring with 22 points.
