It was a fast-pace back and forth game that was closed out in the final minutes. Jesuit shot the lights out from deep and Allen was carried by Colorado State signee Isaiah Stevens for the full 32 minutes. However at the end, Jesuit made the timely plays to finish off Allen and complete the upset. Here are our “Five Best” from the exciting district matchup:
MVP – 5’11 PG Isaiah Stevens – Allen (Senior)
Stevens came into the game cooking from the perimeter. The senior point guard was simply feeling it and getting busy from all three levels on the court. The future Ram put the team on his back and was the reason they did not lose by ten points or more. He scored 44 points off 18-for-32 shooting from the field and 6-for-14 shooting from deep. He continues to make his case for best point guard in the Lone Star State.
Best Offensive Performance – 5’11 SG Max Abmas – Jesuit (Senior)
Max Abmas, like Stevens put on a show from the perimeter. The high scoring guard was filling it up from the outside, connecting on four threes and scoring 16 first half points. He made clutch plays and hit timely shots offensively to seal the deal and get his team the win. Oral Roberts is getting a combo guard that will provide instant offense when he arrives on campus.
Best Defensive Performance – 6’8″ PF Darryl Brown – Jesuit (Junior)
With Julius Marble exiting the game early due to a foot injury, the Rangers relied on Brown to hold it down in the paint on both ends… and that he did. He was active on the glass and used his length inside to protect the rim. His effort on the floor was key in the upset victory.
Best Sharpshooter – 6’2″ SG Gavin Perryman – Jesuit (Sophomore)
Outside of Stevens and Abmas’ great shooting performances, Gavin Perryman was dialed in from long distance as well. Each of his made attempts from three did not hit the rim. He is one of the best shooters in his class and will put himself in the best position to get an open look from deep off the catch. Perryman also had ice in his veins from the charity stripe. He is an 82 percent free throw shooter and he converted from there when it mattered most.
Best Highlight – 6’1″ SG Thailand Elder – Allen (Junior)
The best highlight came in the final three minutes when Allen was looking to make a late run to close the gap and take the lead. After a score, Stevens stole an inbound pass and dumped the ball off to Thailand Elder who was running towards the rim. There is where the junior guard elevated off of two feet and threw down a slam over a Jesuit defender while being fouled. He finished the three-point play and cut Jesuit’s lead down to two.
