The Pacers got off to a 19-14 lead after a quarter. Senior Terin Kinsway was off to a hot start with 10 of his 13 points coming in the opening quarter.
Then, in the second quarter, Hayes kept it rolling. The Pacers went to the half leading Mt. Vernon 29-18, a dominant first half on the defensive end for Delaware.
In the third quarter, Hayes was able to blow the door off of the game. Taking a 40-22 lead to the final period. In which, they would go on to win comfortably.
Nate Griggs led the way with 19 points, 13 coming in the second half. For Mt. Vernon, Blake Meyers was their best player, totaling eight points and six rebounds.
Five Game Questions:
1. What led Delaware Hayes to the route of Mt. Vernon?
Hayes executed a solid game plan, which was easily noticeable. Running a tough zone majority of the time, the Jackets weren’t able to get in the middle of it often. Also, Hayes ramped up some full court pressure which gave the away team fits. Balanced scoring from multiple Pacers also helped them in this one. But, point guard Nate Griggs led the way with 19 points, that came rather easy for him.
2. Who was the best defenders on the court in this one?
A couple Delaware Hayers players stood out to me. Junior Addison Harvey was tough on-ball, with quick feet and moved side-to-side with ease, to stay with the ball handler. Harvey was solid, forcing a couple steals as well. Also, Nate Griggs had four steals in this one, the tough guard has a knack for poking the ball loose as well as forcing tie ups. However, Griggs has good quickness, that helps all areas of his game.
3. What kind of player is Terin Kinsway?
The Senior Terin Kinsway is TOUGH! The 6’5 WF has a solid inside-out game, but is at his best inside, out muscling defenders. Terin should be a player that area D2’s should make a priority before the end of the cycle. Kinsway looked like more of a defensive end out there, as he is a physical presence. Also, an above average defender and an adequate shot blocker as well.
4. How good can Delaware Hayes be?
A conetender in their OCC division, Hayes has a tough loss to leader, Hilliard Bradley. With a chance to make up for that on Friday, I believe the difference maker will be Paul Burris for Delaware. The Junior makes this team that much better, when he can get going. Hayes, when clicking on all cylinders, should be able to give Hilliard Bradley, and any team they face a good game. But, Delaware Hayes should be a 16 in team or so, as they have multiple players that’s can step up when needed.
5. Who stood out for Mt. Vernon?
Mt. Vernon couldn’t really compete with Hayes for more then two quarters of the game. But, one player who stood out was Blake Meyers. Also, never seeing him before tonight, Meyers showed good rebounding ability on the boards for the Yellow Jackets. With eight points, he was also the leading scorer for his team. Also, showing the ability to finish inside through traffic a couple of times.
