Now that the calendar has turned from 2018 to 2019 and teams have entered conference play, let’s take a look at the players who are the 11th-15th leading scorers in Colorado’s Class 5A and how they’re doing it.
Brandon Romero, 6-1, G, Mountain Range, 2019, 20.3 ppg
It’s no small thing when a 6-foot-1 guard finds a way to grab 6.9 rebounds per game while scoring over 20 points for his team. Romero also averages 2.2 assists per game. The Mustangs senior is shooting 47 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range through nine games.
Jack Olson, 6-8, G/F, Legacy, 2019, 19.8 ppg
Olson has been a promising player for some times now, and he has come into his own as a senior. Long and athletic, Olson scored 13.1 points per game last winter and in his final season he is averaging 19.8 a night . He is shooting 35 percent from 3-point range and is also bringing down 7.2 rebounds per game.
Dalton Knecht, 6-4, G, Prairie View, 2019, 19.5 ppg
He’s got length, he’s got skill and he’s using all the tools he has to score 19.5 points a game. Knecht is also averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. The Thunderhawks are having a rough go of things so far, but Knecht’s scoring ability is keeping them in games.
Darien Meyers, 6-3, SF, Palmer, 2019, 19.5 ppg
You don’t have to look any further than Meyers’ rebounding average of 12.1 per game to see that his scoring average has been boosted by his ability to create opportunities for himself. Meyers’ offensive production has not been self-serving either, as he averages 2.6 assists per game. A guard that can score nearly 20 points a night and block 2.6 shot a game is worthy of consideration.
Avery Rembao, 6-6, G/F, Loveland, 2019, 19.2 ppg
A quality Western State commit, the Indians senior seemingly has nothing left to prove in high school basketball. And yet, Rembao continues to play his heart out for Loveland. As a senior, he is averaging 19.2 points, 4.1 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
