Now that the calendar has turned from 2018 to 2019 and teams have entered conference play, let’s take a look at the 16th- through 20th-leading scorers in Colorado’s Class 3A and how they’re doing it.
16. J Searle, 6-0, G, Ellicott, 2020, 18.3 ppg
Averaging a double-double is no small thing for a six-foot guard to do but Searle has been pulling it off early in the season to the tune of 18.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He’s also averaging 3.0 steals, 2.8 assists and 2.3 blocks.
17. Caleb Ruter, 6-5, PF, Faith Christian, 2020, 17.8 ppg
Long and athletic enough to score around the rim and with his back to the basket, Ruter supports that with a consistent jump shot both from mid range and long distance. He also doesn’t settle for 3-point attempts and has a high motor that has him averaging 7.9 rebounds.
18. Isaac Gallegos, 5-9, PG, The Academy, 2019, 17.7 ppg
Gallegos’ scoring has been a bit up-and-down this season, scoring in single digits twice and over 25 points twice in the Wildcats’ first six games. At least early on, the senior’s big games appear to be tied to the 3-pointer, as he shot a combined 6 for 11 in his two 25-plus scoring outbursts.
19. Brandon Pitt, 6-1, G, Colorado Springs Christian, 2019, 17.6 ppg
The Lions are 8-2 so far this season and their early success is in large part due to Pitt’s multi-faceted production. In a 10-game sample size, the senior guard is averaging 17.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.
20. Reece Johnson, 6-0, G, Resurrection Christian, 2020, 17.5 ppg
Johnson has slowed down just a bit since averaging 21.4 points through the Cougars’ first five games but is still leading the team by a wide margin. Perhaps as important as his scoring has been to his team’s success, his playmaking ability at 3.6 assists per game has been a key to the Cougars’ 8-3 record.
