Now that the calendar has turned from 2018 to 2019 and teams have entered conference play, let’s take a look at the 11th- through 15th-leading scorers in Colorado’s Class 3A and how they’re getting it done.
11. Elijah Thatch, 6-1, G, DSST: Byers, 2020, 19.5 ppg
Following the theme of well-rounding players dominating this list, Thatch does a bit of everything for the Falcons on top of shouldering the scoring load. Not only does he average 19.5 points a while shooting 53 percent from the field, the junior guard averaging 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.6 steals per game.
12. Darrius Garcia, 5-9, G, Monte Vista, 2019, 19.2 ppg
A talented wide receiver and defensive back on the football field, Garcia brings that aggressive mentality to the basketball court and uses it to attack the basket. He scores nearly all of his 19.2 points a game on 2-point field goals and makes over 50 percent of the shots he takes.
13. Turner Kennedy, 6-1, G, Bayfield, 2019, 19.1 ppg
Turner boasts a stat line of 19.1 point, 5.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.6 steals and one block per game, which is a solid output for a 6-foot-1 guard. He is also shooting the 3-ball at a 42-percent clip through eight games played.
14. Elian Soto, 5-11, Jefferson Academy, G/W, 2020, 19.1 ppg
On one of the more balanced teams in 3A, it says something that Soto leads the Jaguars in scoring as a junior. At 5-foot-11, the 3-point shot will always be big part of his game and he is averaging 2.6 long balls a game.
15. DeAnta Dennis, 6-0, G, Colorado Academy, 2019, 18.6 ppg
Another guard who does a lot of the dirty work when he’s not scoring the basketball, Dennis averages 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals a night. He is working hard this season to improve his 3-point shooting, which adds a new element to his skill set.
