In the third place game, Trinity defeated Soldan in a battle of top Class 3 teams. In the championship game, Alton (IL) defeated Chaminade to end the Red Devils’ two-year as tournament champions.
Here is a look at the top Missouri standouts from Saturday night’s action:
Marcus Washington 6’2″ Trinity (’19) – The University of Texas football recruit had one of the best offensive nights of his four-year varsity career with 31 points in the 57-42 victory over Soldan. Washington was unstoppable as he slashed to the bucket all night and got to the free throw line countess times. The athletic wing guard also finished with 10 rebounds, which included many offensive putbacks.
Luke Kasubke 6’6″ Chaminade (’20) – The standout junior wing scored a game-high 15 points in the Red Devils’ loss to Alton in the championship game. Known for his perimeter shooting, Luke didn’t have the 3-pointer working on this night, but he did an excellent job of slashing and finishing with layups and floaters.
Ryan Kalkbrenner 7’0″ Trinity (’20) – The young pivot earned the award for top defensive player of the tournament and it was well deserved as he was a shot-blocking whiz throughout he weekend, including six swats against Soldan and several other altered shots in the third-place game. His length and great sense of timing enable him to be a top rim-protector without ever fouling. He also added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Tarris Reed, Jr. 6’7″ Chaminade (’22) – The talented young big was one of the Chaminade’s top players on the night with 14 points and nine rebounds in the championship game. He is one of the top freshman in the state and he displayed his skills on this night with good footwork, strong hands and the ability to finish around the basket. He was also a force on the offensive glass in the second half.
Matteus Case 6’5″ Chaminade (’20) – The transfer shooting guard from Canada scored 13 points for the Red Devils in the championship game. He is a smooth operator who can handle the ball and knock down the corner 3-pointer. He does a good job in the open court and can create offensive opportunities off the dribble.
