PHD: What made the decision to go and play at Northwestern College?
CS: My decision to go to Northwestern College took some time but I realized that they were the best fit for me. I also felt like they wanted me the most.
PHD: Why did you choose them over the other colleges in the area?
CS: I chose Northwestern over others because the coaching staff showed they really cared about me as a person and a player and the school is amazing.
PHD: How excited are you to be going to Northwestern for basketball?
CS: I’m super pumped about basketball there, I feel like I can make a big impact in the next four years. I can’t wait.
PHD: What’s it going to be like to team up with the current players and coaching staff?
CS: I can’t wait to meet all the guys there and start hooping with them. They are all super talented and the coaches are all really good. Coach Korver has a ton of experience so I can’t wait to learn from him and others.
PHD: What do you expect out of yourself and your team this final year at SF Washington?
CS: I’m expecting us to compete with everyone in this last half of the season. I think we are a talented team and I think we can make a run come postseason.
Shields and the Washington Warriors have had a rough January but do boast quality wins over a talented Huron team and an SF Roosevelt team that just beat the defending champs Yankton. They have competed in every game with several games decided by 10 points or less.
The Warriors travel out to Pierre tonight to face off against Pierre T.F. Riggs at 7 p.m. and then will start a five-game homestand before finishing the regular season at Aberdeen Central on Feb. 23. With the SoDak 16 now in all three classes the Warriors could make some noise come postseason time.
