Marshall Cain – 2019 – G – Clear Lake
Clear Lake was without its leading scorer Bailey Blanchard on Saturday. That forced others to step up and Cain didn’t shy away. The senior guard scored a team-high 18 points, trying to carry the extra load. A smooth and strong guard, Cain was an efficient 5-of-8 from the field, using a quick first step to get to the rim. He was also very active defensively, playing a physical brand of basketball. A role player with a lot of value, Cain will help Clear Lake make another deep run in March.
Marcus Domask – 2019 – SF – Waupun
Domask had his first career triple-double to help Wisconsin get its first win at the Border Battle. The Northern Kentucky commit had 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. Looking like the clear cut favorite to win Mr. Basketball, Domask did all this despite picking up his third foul in the first half. Domask made it look easy on Saturday, getting to the rim for most of his points and finding cutting teammates for easy buckets throughout the game. Domask has a great feel for the other four players around him and can surgically pick apart a defense with the pass. Domask capped the day off with a poster dunk over a defender as Waupun rolled to a 26-point victory.
Jayden Jackson – 2021 – SG – Whitefish Bay
We saw really good flashes from Jackson in the summer and it appears he’s taken some steps forward. Jackson posted 23 points and six rebounds in an impressive display during a loss to St. Croix Lutheran. Jackson has a sweet mid-range game. The sophomore guard does an excellent job of getting defenders backpedaling and pulling up quickly from 15-17 feet. An athletic guard that likes to get out and go in transition, Jackson was a force in transition throughout the day. He’s not a top 25 ranked prospect in his class yet, but there’s definitely potential for Jackson to get that high over the next two years.
Sam Kick – 2021 – PG – Onalaska
The Hilltoppers were playing from behind nearly the entire game, but Kick showed us some new things. In a high-level matchup where points were often at a premium for his team, Kick tried to energize Onalaska offensively. Known as a very unselfish, pass-first point guard, Kick helped get the Hilltoppers going in the second half. He was much more assertive as a scorer than we’ve ever seen, taking 13 shots and scoring in double figures, while also dishing out three assists.
Riley LeTourneau – 2019 – PF – Brookfield East
LeTourneau is undersized and doesn’t possess great athleticism, but man, is this kid effective. A blue-collar post that not gets his job done — and more — LeTourneau was absolutely dominant in a blowout win over Apple Valley. LeTourneau is quick and decisive down on the block. The senior forward has a motor that doesn’t stop and just breaks the will of his opponent on the interior. Even with his team well ahead in the second half, LeTourneau didn’t turn off the motor and still wanted it more than anyone else on the floor. LeTourneau dropped 34 points to go along with six rebounds and East throttled Apple Valley.
Gage Malensek – 2019 – PG – Brookfield Central
Brookfield Central had a tough night against East Ridge, but Malensek was special. Playing the best we’ve ever seen out of him, Malensek gave East Ridge all sorts of problems. Looking extremely quick on the ball, Malensek was able to blow by defenders consistently and get to the hoop. The Raptors had to start putting their athletes on the 6-foot point guard and Malensek was often still able to create offense. Trying to get the Lancers out of their slump and now three-game losing streak, Malensek posted 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting. He also added five rebounds and five assists in the loss.
Sam McGath – 2020 – G – Brookfield East
McGath posted 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists for East on Saturday. A high-IQ ball player that makes winning plays, McGath really took any hope Apple Valley had of a comeback away. With LeTourneau doing a ton of damage inside, every time Apple Valley got the ball out of his hands, it felt like McGath was the one to drive in the dagger. McGath was an efficient 5-of-7 shooting and also grabbed two offensive rebounds from the guard spot. The type of player that can take on a variety of roles, nothing is too big or too small for McGath to accomplish on the floor.
Ethan Reis – 2020 – SG – Thorp
Reis is a crafty scorer with some quality athleticism at the small school level. The 6-foot-1 junior can take his game inside and score around the hoop. He’s also a strong catch-and-shoot presence from beyond the arc. Off the bounce, Reis has some ability to create space and generate a quality look. He’s got a nice-step back jumper is comfortable driving on either hand. Reis cooled off late, but still finished with 15 points in the loss.
Isaac Soumis – 2020 – F – Thorp
Soumis helped Thorp stick around in the first half during a loss to Minnesota Valley Lutheran. The 6-foot-6 junior worked hard on the offensive glass and created a number of second-chance opportunities. Soumis caught some tough passes inside, but displayed soft hands. He also has a knack for getting defenders in the air and creating contact. Able to play above the rim, Soumis finished off an intriguing alley-oop, going off two feet and catching over the cylinder. Displaying some interior toughness on both ends, particularly on the glass, Soumis had a nice surge late to bring Thorp within 11, but it was too little too late. Soumis would finish with 22 points (8-10) and 7 rebounds.
Quintin Winterfeldt – 2019 – SF – Waupun
Winterfeldt looked like he took a big step forward in his progression on Saturday. A prospect that’s been steadily progressing towards his high ceiling, Winterfeldt showed major flashes in a win over Rochester Mayo. The Minnesota-Crookston commit shot the ball as well as we’ve seen, going 9-of-12 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range. A big, athletic wing, Winterfeldt has been more of a slasher, but complimented that very well with his jumper
