It was an even bigger game for senior guard Josh Rogers, as he hit a big-time career milestone during the win.
Leading the Wildcats with 20 points, Rogers’s final score of the night was the one that pushed his career point-scoring total to an even 1,000 points in three years on the varsity roster at Arvada West.
As a varsity player at Arvada West, Rogers has played in 65 games and has a career scoring average of 15.4 points. As a sophomore, he scored 230 points in 24 games. As a junior, Rogers scored 405 points in 24 games for a 16.9-point average.
So far in 2018-19, Rogers has played in 17 games and had scored 365 points. His senior-season scoring average of 21.5 points a night is the currently 14th highest in all of Colorado and fourth best in Class 5A. His season high is 41 points (9 for 14 shooting) against Dakota Ridge on Jan. 16. He is shooting 38 percent from 3-point range and also averages 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals a game.
Rogers is a versatile guard with good length at 6-foot-2. He shoots the ball well and can create his own shot. He can also handle the ball full-court and is excellent at finishing in traffic at the rim.
The A-West Wildcats (13-4) lost in the first round of the 5A playoffs last season and hope to do much better this winter. With Rogers leading the way, it looks likely that they will.
