Continue ReadingAs we enter the month of February, Prep Hoops Missouri will now take a look at the five teams that are currently ranked No. 1 in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association state polls in their respective classes. All five will be prime contenders to win state championships in March against a very challenging group of excellent teams in their respective classes.
Class 1: Dora (18-1)
The Falcons are enjoying a big season, which includes three tournament championships and a victory over defending state champion Eminence earlier this season. They are a sophomore dominated lineup, led by stellar bucket-getter Isaac Haney, who is averaging 24.5 points a game while shooting 42 percent from 3-point range. The Falcons also get big contributions from Class of 2020 triplets Bryson Luna (11.1 points), Mason Luna (10.0 points) and Austen Luna (6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds).
Big Game this Month: Hartville at Dora on February 1
Class 2: Milan (18-0)
After advancing to the state quarterfinals last season, the Wildcats have been dominating this season in rolling to its undefeated record. Only one of their 18 opponents have played them to a margin in single digits this season. They are led by 6’3″ 2020 forward Ryan Dabney, who is averaging 16 points and 8.8 rebounds a game, and 6’4″ 2020 forward Hunter Shaw, who averages 14 points while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range. Class of 2021 guard Dominic Dabney averages eight points a game.
Big Game this Month: Milan at Lathrop on February 13
Class 3: Vashon (15-4)
Cam’Ron Fletcher & Marion McKinneyThe Wolverines have put together a strong season while playing against a very challenging national schedule. They just finished in third place at the Montverde Invitational Tournament in Florida while playing three nationally ranked teams. Vashon was also played in the City of Palms Tournament (FL), the HoopHall Shootout (MA) while playing individual games against Illinois powers Belleville West, Chicago Morgan Park and South Garland (TX). University of Missouri recruit Mario McKinney leads the way along with Class of 2020 prospects Cam’Ron Fletcher, Kobe Clark and Phillip Russell.
Big Game this Month: Trinity at Vashon on February 9
Class 4: Sikeston (16-0)
The Bulldogs are one of the highest scoring and most entertaining teams to watch in the state of Missouri. They have already won three tournament championships (SEMO, St. Dominic, Fort Zumwalt North) during the season. Sikeston boasts four talented guards in 2019s Kevin Jones, Owen Long, Parker Long and 2020 Payton Howard. All four guards can pass the ball, handle the ball and knock down 3-pointers. Anchoring the middle is 6’7″ 2019 forward Trey Jenkins, who is a force at both ends of the floor.
Big Game this Month: Cape Girardeau at Sikeston on February 8
Class 5 Rockhurst (19-0)
The Hawklets advanced to the state quarterfinals last season and returned a well-balanced group of veterans, which make up this current team that is undefeated. The backcourt is well stocked with 2019s Glenn McClintock and Tyler Nelson while their is plenty of talent up front in 6’6″ Nebraska-Omaha signee Darrius Hughes, 6’4″ A.J. White and 6’4″ Dalen Ridgnal.
