This will be a post that happens every Monday this season to tune you into the things you need to keep an eye out for. These are the things you should keep an eye on for the week of January 21st – January 26th.
3 Teams
Carmel
After falling to Brownsburg on Saturday, Carmel now has a three game slate to contend with this week. They will need to be focused if they want to get out of the week with three wins. They face Anderson on Tuesday and then they have Ben Davis and New Castle back-to-back on Friday and Saturday. The biggest test this week is Ben Davis, but Anderson and New Castle both are capable of pulling an upset.
Morgan Township
Morgan Township hasn’t been tested yet this year and sit at 10-1 on the year. They took down Covenant Christian (DeMotte) in a very close game but don’t have any other key wins. This week they will be tested in each game they play as they play three teams with nine or more wins. A sweep this week will vault them up the rankings but a three game skid could knock them off altogether.
Evansville Mater Dei
Mater Dei is a team who is turning some heads this year and have a tough week ahead of themselves. They play at Castle on Tuesday and then have back-to-back games this weekend between Heritage Hills and Evansville Memorial. This week is really going to tell us if Memorial is a team that should be taken seriously. They have the potential to win each game, but I could also see a loss in each.
3 Games
Brownsburg vs. Zionsville
Coming off of a huge win over previously unbeaten Carmel, this is a huge game for Brownsburg. Zionsville is no slouch and will give Brownsburg a great game. They match up pretty well with Zionsville having a ton of height. This will be a game that will tell us a lot about Brownsburg as we will see if they can get two great wins in a row.
Delta vs. Mt. Vernon (Fortville)
Delta is riding high as they are 14-0 this season. They haven’t been majorly tested but this is the game where we will learn a lot about them. Mt. Vernon is a team that has a few good wins and they are in for a tough week. They end the week with Delta, a team that is on fire this week. The outcome of this one will tell us a lot by both of these teams.
Frankton vs. Eastern (Greentown)
This is a game that I have my eye on as both of these teams are competitive 2A programs. After sliding a little early in the season, Frankton seems as if they are back on track. Eastern (Greentown) has two losses on the season, both close losses to 4A opponents. This is a game that we will be able to see which of these two teams are legit.
3 Players
Armaan Franklin
It is a big week for Cathedral as they have to deal with the City Tournament followed by a game against Culver Academy this weekend. Franklin is the key cog on this Cathedral team and is going to have to be the guy that leads them to a tournament championship and a win over a tough Culver team.
Sam Skaggs
Skaggs has really taken off this year and is scoring at an elite level. They will need him to score a ton this weekend as Logansport goes on the road to take on Marion and then follows up with Noblesville. Logansport has only lost one game this year but haven’t really put many good wins up. This is a week for them to show they are for real and Skaggs is going to have to lead them.
Trey Galloway
Galloway is the key cog for Culver Academy and they have two tough games this week. First they take on West Lafayette and that is followed by a top 4A team in Cathedral at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Galloway has been playing well this year and Culver is looking to win another state title. With a good week, Culver should have a good chance to get two wins.
