This will be a post that happens every Monday this season to tune you into the things you need to keep an eye out for. These are the things you should keep an eye on for the week of January 14th – January 19th.
3 Teams
Warren Central
If you don’t think that Warren Central has been tested yet this year (they have), then this is the week that they are going to prove themselves. They have three games this week and all three are going to be tough. They see Lawrence Central in back-to-back games followed by Zionsville. Monday is the Marion County final, which was moved due to snow on Saturday. They then have LC again on Friday and Zionsville on Saturday. It will be a big week for them.
Andrean
This is a big week for Andrean as they play three games. Fortunately, Andrean is the home team in each so that will make it a touch easier. On Monday they welcome a top team in 1A as 10-2 Lafayette Central Catholic comes up north to take on Andrean. Wednesday they welcome in Chesterton, one of the better region teams this year. Saturday it gets a touch easier as Highland is on the schedule. A 3-0 week for Andrean would be a spectacular result.
Silver Creek
Silver Creek was kind of stunned this past week dropping a game to Brownstown Central. They now have two losses, both to the best teams on their schedule. The thing with Silver Creek is that they are still searching for a signature win. Their best win is over a 7-5 Charlestown team in the first game of the year. This week, Silver Creek plays at New Albany in a game they need to win.
3 Games
Warren Central vs. Lawrence Central x2
Two of the top teams in the state play twice this week. The first is on Monday in the rescheduled Marion County finals and Friday night is the regularly scheduled MIC contest. Warren Central is on a crazy win streak dating back to 2017 and Lawrence Central is going to be the best team that they have played thus far this year. If you can’t get to Southport on Monday, be sure to go to LC on Friday night.
Logansport vs. Noblesville
While this isn’t a matchup that jumps off the chart at you, it should be a pretty solid game. Logansport runs a high tempo offense and thrives on the deep ball. Noblesville, on the other hand, is a team that is going to attempt to slow the game down and try to create in the half court. If Logansport isn’t shooting the ball very well, Noblesville has the potential to steal a game like this one. Noblesville has been a sneaky team this year and have been in most of their games. This one should be no different.
Frankton vs. Blackford
This is the game where we will finally see if Blackford is legit. Frankton is a good defensive team and Blackford is led by high scoring Luke Brown. If Blackford can contain the offense of Frankton and Brown still goes off, then they should be able to win it. If Brown scores 50 then I think Frankton will be at the peril of losing the game. Should be a classic between these two teams who are looking to put it all together.
3 Players
Lincoln Hale
Linton-Stockton and Lincoln Hale have a big week ahead of them. On Friday they will face 10-2 North Daviess followed by 6-7 Owen Valley who is no slouch. Hale has been playing really well this year and needs to have a big week this week. He is a guy who can score on anyone and will need to continue to do so this weekend.
Luke Brown
In order for Blackford to win games, Brown needs to score a ton of points. This week is no different for him as they face Frankton on Friday, a team who always has a great defensive game plan and takes away the opposing teams’ best scorer. Monday night, Frankton will see Winchester in a game where Brown should be able to do pretty much anything that he wants.
Jake LaRavia
With two chances to upend the top team in the state, Lawrence Central’s Jake LaRavia is really going to have to be on top of his game if Lawrence Central wants to take one of these two games. Lawrence Central is one of the most talented teams in the state and they are one of the few teams that I think could knock off the defending champs for the first time in two years.
