The Quarriers started the game up 18-4 and led as many as 15 points in the first quarter. But Madison stormed back and cut the big lead to single digits at the end of one, 23-16.
The second quarter was more of a battle for both teams as Dell Rapids tried to push the lead back to double-digits and Madison was trying to keep the momentum they mounted at the end of the first quarter.
At the half, Dell Rapids only led by five points, 36-31. Neither team could keep the momentum their way in the second half as it would swing both ways at times but throughout all the swings Dell Rapids never relinquished the lead.
Heading into the final period the Quarriers led 52-45. Dells held onto win even with being outscored in the final quarter to win 68-65.
TURNING POINT: The Quarriers used a fast start to the game to keep several comeback attempts from Madison at bay. That was the key to keeping the lead throughout the night.
KEY PLAY: Dell Rapids made more free throws(9-for-19) than Madison attempted (3-for-5)
STAT OF THE DAY: All five starters for Dell Rapids finished in double digits. Colin Rentz (17 points and 9 boards), Logan Ellingson (16 points), Logan Heim (12 points and 15 boards), Drew Van Regenmorter (12 points) and Connor Rentz (11 points)
TEAM STATS:
The Quarriers shot 49 percent from the field and 26 percent from deep. They out-rebounded the Bulldogs 39-31.
The Bulldogs shot 41 percent from the field and 50 percent (10-for-20) from deep.
