Now that the calendar has turned from 2018 to 2019 and most teams have entered conference play, let’s take a look at the 16th– through 20th-the leading scorers in Colorado’s Class 4A and how they’re getting it done.
16.Julian Claussen, 6-3, F, Wheat Ridge, 2019, 17.5 ppg
A talented post player, Claussen makes his home as close to the basket as possible and it’s paying off for him in 2018-19. So far as a senior, he is putting up nearly 18 points a night while averaging 6.7 rebounds per game.
17. Nico Martin, 6-0, G, Pueblo Central, 2019, 16.9 ppg
There isn’t as much information readily available for Martin as there is for some of these other guys, but the scoring numbers are there and they look good. Martin is averaging 16.9 points per game this season and even on nights when the field goals aren’t dropping, he has shown the ability to remain productive offensively by getting to the free-throw line.
18. Skye Ciccarelli, 6-0, G, Woodland Park, 2019, 16.7 ppg
There’s no doubt Ciccarelli has been a productive scorer this season. He has also been an active player when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. Ciccarelli leads the struggling Panthers in scoring and also averages 7.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.
19. Tanner Baird, 6-3, G, Holy Family, 2019, 16.5 ppg
Baird hit the 1,000-point scoring milestone this week, which is indicative of just how good he has been for nearly four years now at Holy Family. The four-year starter is rounding out his senior season with 16.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
20. Charlie Belcher, 5-10, G, Silver Creek, 2019, 16.4 ppg
As a junior last winter, Belcher averaged less than four points a game. Through the first dozen games of his senior season, the 5-foot-10 guard is scoring 16.4 a night. An improved long-range shooting stroke (47 percent) is a major reason for his incredible scoring increase.
