Now that the calendar has turned from 2018 to 2019 and teams have entered conference play, let’s take a look at the players who are the 16th- through 20th-leading scorers in Colorado’s Class 5A and how they’re making it happen.
16. Keyshawn Maltbia, 6-3, SG/SF, Fountain-Fort Carson, 2020, 18.9 ppg
Matlbia has scored in double figures in each of the Trojans’ first 12 games and really picked it up with 33 points against Palmer on Tuesday. The junior wing has the green light and has taken 205 shot attempts this season, of which he has made 42 percent.
17. Christian Davis, 6-0, G, Mullen, 2019, 18.8 ppg
Long for a 6-foot guard and bouncy, Davis can get to the rim against just about any defense. When he gets there, he has finished well this season to the tune of 18.8 point per game and an even 50 percent field goal percentage. He is also shooting 51 percent from 3-point range including an incredible 15-for-19 long range shooting performance that earned him a season-high 55 points against Chatfield on Dec. 22.
18. Brendan Temple, 6-5, F, Douglas County, 2019, 18.7 ppg
Temple has been rebounding at rate of 8.7 per game and has been grabbing 2.75 offensive boards a night in his last four games. He has also pumped up his 3-point shooting percentage to 41 percent this season and has made 24 of 59 long range shots through the Huskies’ first dozen games.
19. Luke O’Brien, 6-7, SG, Columbine, 2020, 18.5 ppg
O’Brien verbally committed to the University of Colorado in November and has been lighting up the scoreboard since the season began in December. The 6-foot-7 wing is averaging 18.5 point, 7.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.9 blocks per game and his scoring will likely tick up even more once his 3-point shooting returns closer to the 37 percent he shot as a sophomore last season. O’Brien is Prep Hoops Colorado’s No. 1-ranked junior.
20. Jackson Lamb, 5-11, G, Dakota Ridge, 2019, 17.8 ppg
On Dec. 18, Lamb busted out for 40 points on 13 of 20 shooting including a season-best five 3-pointers against Legacy. He has continued to shoot the long ball well, making 44 percent of his 3-point attempts.
