Continue ReadingPrep Hoops drove 2 hours inland to watch the undefeated Clarendon Hall Saints take on Wardlaw Academy. The host Saints dictated the tempo from the get go and jumped out to a 31-16 lead with 4:35 left in the 2nd quarter. The Saints went on a 18-9 run to finish out the half at 49-25.
The Patriots battled back and only trailed 61-48 with 3:59 left in the game. Caleb Martin and Gavin Bilbrey were keeping the Patriots alive with their play in the paint. The host Saints behind the strong play of Traveon Davis and Zyan Gilmore helped spark a 11-1 run to finish the game. The Saints stayed perfect on a the season and improve to (18-0) with a 72-49 victory.
MVP : Traveon Davis (2020) – Clarendon Hall
Davis 6’4 wing player finished the game with 23 points after coming off the bench today. Davis entered the game at the 5:17 mark. Davis played last season at nearby Lake Marion HS before transferring over to the Saints last summer. Saints connected on 4 three pointers from downtown and at times played effortless. Davis has all the tools for the next level but at times really needs to tune up the motor.
Best Post Player : Caleb Martin (2020) – Wardlaw Academy
Martin 6’7 played very aggressive in the Patriots all day long. Martin has good length and knows where his bread his buttered in the paint. Martin stays in the paint and looks to go to work. Martin must get stronger and finished the game with 13 points and several rebounds.
Best Freshman : Kylic Horton (2022) – Clarendon Hall
Horton 6’4 plays on the wing for the Saints. Horton is very poised for his young age on the floor. Horton at times will look to settle for the jump shot instead of trying to drive the ball to the basket. Horton is just 14 years old and the future will be built around this talented young man. Horton finished with 13 points.
Best Playmaker : Zyan Gilmore (2020) – Clarendon Hall (pictured on front)
Gilmore plays with confidence and it shows on the floor. Gilmore plays extremely hard at all times and never lacks effort on the floor. Gilmore isn’t afraid to pull-up from 25 feet and let it fly. Gilmore finished with 19 points and several assists today. Gilmore makes the engine go for the Saints and is the leader for Head Coach Anthony Reitenour on the floor.

The Saints remain perfect on the season at (18-0) in the SCISA Class A ranks. The Saints (18-0) prepare for a busy week with games with Cathedral Academy, St John’s Christian and Patrick Henry Academy.
