Pelion HS came to Hemingway HS to play in the matinee special. The game was a low scoring affair from the start. Darius Taylor a recent 1,000 point scorer for the Tigers finished with just 2 points in the win. The Hemingway Tigers the back to back defending state champions held onto a 43-38 victory over the Panthers.
MVP : Aaron Parker (2020) – Hemingway HS (pictured on front)
Parker came up with some big shots late in the game to help the Tigers seal the victory. Parker finished with 11 points in the victory. Parker connected on some pullup jumpers and layup in the game to seal the victory.
Mr Hustle : Nigel Singletary (2020) – Hemingway HS
Singletary 5’9 just brings constant effort while on the floor. Singletary scored 13 points in the win. Singletary is a high energy kid that is very quick from end to end. Singletary converted 5 points late in the game to make 37-32 down the stretch with a crucial three pointer.
Seniors : Malcolm Davis and Travon Alston (2019) – Pelion HS
The Panthers duo didn’t have quite enough to help steal a win in Williamsburg County. Davis a small point guard led the Panthers with 14 points while Alston a physical specimen added 10 points. Alston a wide receiver on the football field just bullied defenders at time in the paint with his physical play.
Done playing : Darius “JuJu” Williams (2019) – Hemingway HS
Prep Hoops saw the Tigers earlier this month at the North-South 1A Showdown at Great Falls HS. Williams a Middle Tennessee State football recruit has decided to hang up the basketball shoes according to Tigers Head Coach Emmanuel DeWalt. Williams6’3 left-handed post player finished his career with 2 state championships on the hardwood.
Unsung Hero : Dashaquavious Cooper (2020) – Hemingway HS
Cooper is not flashy but very productive around the paint. Cooper will be relied even more now for the inside play for the Tigers with Williams not playing anymore. Cooper is consistent every night in the paint and today with 9 points and 8 rebounds in the win. Cooper started off his career at Johnsonville HS as a freshman.
