In a game that Ontario controlled the whole way, Galion kept fighting. Just coming up short, Galion fell to 3-8 on the season. The Warriors picking up a much needed win improved to 7-4 on the campaign.
Five Takeaways
Joe Balogh Continues To Be A Legend
Continuing his winning ways, Head Coach Balogh picked up an impressive 552nd win. Coaching over 30 years is a tremendous accomplishment that not many can say they have done. This spring the great Joe Balogh will be inducted into the OHSAA Hall Of Fame. With players like Griffin Shaver and Kolten Kurtz only sophomores, I don’t see why Coach Balogh would want to give up the reign just yet.
Shaquan Coburn Is A Solid Two-Way Player
The 6’2 combo guard has a lengthy frame that helps him excel on both sides of the ball. Defensively Shaquan is a stud defender, always up in your face and long reach gives him an advantage. Recording three steals on the night the junior was all over the stat sheet, to go with 21 points and 7 rebounds. In his final year and a half under Balogh, he may get just that much better.
Griffin Shaver Has The Tools To Be Really Good
Having watched Griffin multiple times this year, tonight may have been his best performance. Putting up 18 points and 5 rebounds effortlessly. The 6’1 lead guard is always in complete control of the game. Creating his own shot as well as rolling off screens are major strengths for the sophomore. Coach Joe Balogh is probably happy to have this one around a couple more years.
Isaiah Alsip Is A Good Player On A Below Average Team
Having seen the high scoring Alsip for a second time Saturday night, he once again showed he can fill it up. Having just five points in the first half, the 6’1 guard put up 15 in the second half. A hound on defense he was all over the place, recording three steals. The junior can score from anywhere on the court at a high level, with the speed to blow by defenders. Galion is a team that heavily relies on Isaiah Alsip for majority of production.
The Win That Ontario Needed
Having lost a couple straight this may have been the win Ontario needed to get back on track. Just two games behind in the MOAC, Ontario still has a lot to play for. With a well balanced scoring effort, led by Griffin Shaver, Ontario should be able to compete with any team they come across.
