Overview:
So far, as the 2022 class is developing, this is going to be a group to watch as their is one high-end prospect in Jalen Washington and then a ton of guys after that could go any number of ways in their coming years. A guy like Jeffrey Simmons from Fishers (IN) is a really productive player gaining Varsity minutes and has the size already to play at some higher levels. Right after those two, you have a slew of guys in Ethan Oakley, Charlie Williams, and Max Sullivan that are similar in a lot of ways right now but the next couple years will probably separate them out more.
Another thing of note here is the depth. While it is way too early to predict how many of these guys will play at each level, there looks like a better than not chance that we see 5+ guys get close enough to get those looks as we sit today. Not to mention, there are likely to double the number of overall prospects in the next two years so there is a chance, with the slower development of big men, that things change and we see some more guys come out. For comparison’s sake, in 2019, we are expecting to see eight players go to DI programs.
New Additions:
We have four new additions to the rankings this time around. We had quite a few before and now we are looking at 10 power forwards through our second set of rankings. We do have upwards of ten more players that we just need to get a closer look at before ranking so expect some more next time around. The top guy we have added is Jacob O’Dell. The 6’3 and growing forward is a guy we fully expect to be growing and even taller next time we get a look and he’s got more ball handling and face-up skills than his older brother, Adam. If he continues to grow but keeps a lot of the same skillset, could be looking at a stretch forward or a guy that ends up more of a wing. We also introduce Jack Mahoney, Kobe Ottinger, and Hunter Crew.
Stock Risers:
There are two guys that have made significant jumps this time around, Ethan Oakley and Jeffrey Simmons. Simmons was a guy we had in at our camp and he looked really productive but just wanted to see him do it again, making sure his production wasn’t a “best day” viewing. Instead, he is exactly what we saw and he’s already moving in a great direction. Ethan Oakley we got to see this winter break and he’s a guy with a great frame, maybe a little more height left to get, and pretty tough when he needs to be. He’s skilled more than we saw the first time and while we are projecting a bit, he could end up being one of the more interesting players in the 2022 class.
