Overview:
The reality of the center position is there just aren’t that many players that play there. There isn’t much size. Even in this class, which does have quite a bit of size, the position of the center isn’t strong because more players are skilled enough and athletic enough to play on the wing or stretch the floor. Now, that isn’t a knock on those that can’t. Usually when you are 15 years old and 6’8+, it isn’t likely to be the case.
Even so, we only have two guys in our rankings so far that will fit into this category in Dayton Devaughn and Thomas Barone. Both are still really developing here and there isn’t a ton of change in either. The taller you are, the slower the development process so that is why you will likely see these two and any other center prospects we add down the road, are likely going to get passed by for a while before they come back in their final two years. You have to be comfortable with your body before you can really make large strides in your game. When you stop growing at 15 years old like a lot of guards do, you develop skills quicker. Not so much when you are tall and only getting taller.
New Additions:
No new additions in this set of rankings. Hopefully by the time we hit the end of the high school season we will have some more. This is a point of emphasis as size is always coveted and we want to see it develop more than maybe we care about guards.
Stock Risers:
Dayton Devaughn dropped a bit in the latest set of rankings, merely because we added 30 new players to the list and it just happens. Barone we had move up a little bit out of luck more as he was rated lower to begin with and some players around him we dropped a bit on second viewing. Plan to see Devaughn again before the end of the season and again, hopefully some new faces as well.
