Several of the players mentioned below are high potential players that could score a ton of points over the next 3 and a half seasons. Here’s a look at the top shooting guards/combo guards in the class.
- Jerone Morton, George Rogers Clark – Jerone is a smooth lefty scorer with a huge upside. He’s still growing and will have to add bulk as he ages but Morton has the “it factor” when he plays and you can see the future star he’s going to be. Morton plays without fear of any opponent or any big moment. He’ll take a big shot without hesitation but that type of fearlessness is a good thing in players his age.
- Andru Markham, Fern Creek – When we saw Markham back in the fall he was a shooter who was making a ton of jump shots. So far this season, Andru has only taken one three all year. Averaging 5 points and 4 rebounds for the very young Fern Creek team, Markham could be a big time wing prospect in the near future.
- Turrell Cleaves, Jr., Butler – Cleaves has huge upside, perhaps among the most potential of any player in the class. The issue with Turrell is how hard he’s going to be willing to work to reach his ceiling. Blessed with physical gifts and a high skill level, Turrell could be the best college prospect in the class if he starts to play with the edge that all the best players do.
- Miles Franklin, Trinity – Franklin’s impact this season is limited to being a bench player on a very veteran Trinity team but expect him to be the next star at Trinity after graduation this season. Franklin is a smooth scorer with a good handle and ability to knock down jumpers off the catch or pull-up. Remember his name for the future.
- Luke Imfeld, Boyle County – Imfield was a home schooled student until this year and he has stepped right into a starting role at Boyle and is leading the team in scoring and is second in rebounding. He’s not having as great of a shooting season as I expected after seeing him in the fall but he reminds me of former Boyle shooting guard Hagen Tyler and think he has the same upside as a prospect.
