Overview:
One of the things about the 2021 class that is going to make is special is the group of power forwards. With a couple names at the top, there are some elite level players nationally already gaining interest and some others just behind them that could develop well into their junior and senior years.
At the top, there is more competition as Trey Kaufman has entered the mix with a great start to the high school season. The 6’7 forward from Silver Creek (IN) is quickly developing and could challenge for the top spot in the class at his ceiling. However, Blackhawk Christian (IN) forward Caleb Furst will stick at the top spot. Even down a little bit, Blake Sisley and D.J. Hughes Jr. land in our overall Top 10.
Where this class excels is not only the mid and high major type talents, but the talent at every level. Guys outside of our Top 10 Power Forwards, you have guys like Jacob Moynihan and Cam Brown, two guys that could really rise with some more development in the next year and would be a vying for a spot in the first 10. There are a lot of guys here that will be able to bring different assets as quite a few are stellar shooters for the position and even some guys that might be due for a position change if all goes well.
New Additions:
In terms of new players to the list, we have only added two new players this time around. We do have five other players that are switching into the position so they are new for this round of position rankings. The two we have added are Sam Strycker of Fort Wayne Carroll (IN) and Connor Davis of Parke Heritage (IN). Strycker is a guy that we believe could be in line for a position change as some point depending on his development. Davis is probably one of the more productive players at the spot in this class we have seen this year. He’s a little undersized but big and tough and really settled as a scorer.
Stock Risers:
Looking a little deeper into the rankings and we can see that there aren’t a ton of players that have moved up in this last set of rankings. The one that has was Trey Kaufman who moved up to #5 overall and from #3 to #2 in the power forward rankings. However, we have five new faces added to the Top 50 overall rankings and that has kept some guys the same or just a step back in the overall rankings. Matt Williams of Southwestern (Hanover) has picked up the most spots int he power forward rankings moving up three spots. Landen Jordan, Kyle Ross, and Langdon Hatton all moved up one spot in the position rankings. Hatton is one to watch as he could be jumping a ton by this time next year.
