Continue ReadingThe halfway point in the high school season is here and we are looking to expand and reset our rankings for each class. We are working today on the class of 2021 and the position rankings with our group of point guards. Here is what you need to know for these top flight prospects.
Overview:
Like we said in our look at the top shooting guards, the class of guards overall is where 2021 will make it’s money. At the top, Khristian Lander and Jalen Blackmon are two names already drawing mass attention. Lander has some elite level offers in hand already.
The makeup of this group in 2021 is their scoring ability. With guys like Lander, Gus Etchison, and Luke Brown, you have three guys that could end up in the record books for scoring at the high school level before their careers are over. Brown has been a constant top scorer in the state and is probably the best producer of the bunch.
Another thing about this group is while there isn’t a ton of DI depth right now, the NAIA/DII programs could find program changers in this set of talent. There are guys like Jaylen Fairmon, Isaiah Swope, and Quimari Peterson that could end up moving to a higher level based on their projection and skill level but would end up being a steal for a non-DI program when it is all said and done.
New Additions:
We have 16 new faces to add that were not in our overall rankings the last time around. We also have just one player that we moved from shooting guard to point guard in Ronald Johnson. The top guy that we have added was Isaiah Swope. The Castle (IN) guard is an interesting one. With a capable jumper and length and skill in the lane, he’s got all of the pieces to take off. Without Alex Hemenway next year, he could be in line for a breakout with more opportunities. We have also added Jace Kelly, Shamar Avance, James Glazebrooks, Reggie McDonald, Reese Harmon, Paris Roberson, Kyle Sanders, Kaden McCollough, Trenton Hurst, Dylan Ritter, Davrick Black, Tarron White, Sam Smith, Frederick Murray, and Larry Stone Jr.,
Stock Risers:
The biggest change was Columbus North’s Blake Barker. He looked completely different than when we saw him this summer and was much bigger and shooting the ball at a higher level. Complete 180 from what we thought we saw early on from him. We also saw Dorian Harris, Malik Stanley, and Quimari Peterson take jumps forward as well.
