Continue ReadingThe halfway point in the high school season is here and we are looking to expand and reset our rankings for each class. We are working today on the class of 2020 and the position rankings with our group of small forwards. Here is what you need to know for these top flight prospects.
Overview:
The group of small forwards is probably going to be the most interesting group to watch moving forward. With a mix of guys that haven’t really established level yet, there is going to be a ton of movement and with that, some changes every time we update rankings.
At the top you have Tre Coleman and Chris Grubbs, the for sure guys at the DI level. But beyond that, there is still a lot left to watch. Some have had initial interest but not a ton of guys at the point of landing offers yet. The next tier down of Dillon Duff, Charlie Yoder, Andrew Welage, and Anthony Scales is a group that could go up or down as they finish out their junior seasons and into the spring. AAU will give us a much more clear look because they will either be able to play at a high level or they won’t. You could even say that about the next 10 or so guys as well.
What we do see of this group is there is a ton of skill. Guys that aren’t just beholden to shooting or driving but guys that have versatility and athleticism. Jake Wadding, Carson Barrett, Isaac Farnsworth, and Kadaphi Honaker are those that meet that the most. However, Charlie Yoder, Nick Schiavello, and Garrott Ott-Large are a few of the knock down shooters you might need to go after if you need that in your lineup.
Where we will see things get tough is with size. While there is a ton of it, there are some very notable players that just aren’t big enough to play the position but aren’t exactly skilled or athletic enough to play a two-guard in college. As we get more eyes on guys, that will be what we will be looking at. Does their skill set change or their body? Will need to keep an eye on that.
New Additions:
As far as new additions, we have nine new faces. We don’t have guys going into he upper tier of talent but the top guys is P.J. Edwards. The transfer from Illinois has been solid and sure looks the part but production has been tough as he has made the transition to Lawrence Central. We have also added Champ McCorkle, Colton Nickelson, Ben Cooney, Jakobie McGowan, Christian Simpson, Cade Bryan, Eric Roudebush, and Alex Hunt.
Stock Risers:
When looking at stock risers, we have five guys that have moved up in a big way in Murray Becher, Nick Schiavello, Jacob Johnson, Justin DeGraaf, and Louis Brock. Becher is the biggest of them. The 6’4 wing looked great when we were able to see him as a bruising driver with skill to shoot and handle the ball. Has versatility and gives you a ton of effort. He’s a guy that looks like he could be coveted later on.
