Continue ReadingThe halfway point in the high school season is here and we are looking to expand and reset our rankings for each class. We are working today on the class of 2020 and the position rankings with our group of shooting guards. Here is what you need to know for these top flight prospects.
Overview:
Of the positions in the 2020 class, the shooting guard spots are the deepest and most talented. With our top three players in the class all coming from the 2-guard spot, that shows just how good this group is. With Anthony Leal, D’Andre Davis, and Trey Galloway at the top, you have three guys all drawing high-major offers with Davis already committed to Nebraska.
After that, you have six players ranked between 10 and 20 with Jaden Ivey, Tony Perkins, Victor Young, Johnell Davis, Qualen Pettus, and Brayton Bailey. These guys are all gaining attention heading into their senior summers and some already have some DI offers in hand.
What this group has is a ton of different types of scorers. With some of the best shooters in the state like Robert Farrell, Braxton Barnhizer, Avery Beaver, Anthony Leal, and D’Andre Davis. There are also creative scorers, an area that Davis is among the best regardless of class. He’s accompanied by Tony Perkins, Brayton Bailey, and Johnell Davis.
There is a ton of size here with multiple guys over 6’4, even some guys with size down the depth chart a bit. The one area where is hurts is that there aren’t a ton of guys at the middle tiers that have a penchant for scoring. More skill guys that can shoot more than produce in all areas. We will be searching for more of those guys this spring.
New Additions:
In this update of the rankings for shooting guards, we have 10 new faces to add. There are a few near the top including Braxton Barnhizer and Kole Hornbuckle who come in at #11 and #12. Barnhizer is a big time shooter with handles. Kole is a long athlete that can play well with the ball in his hands. They are joined by Brayden Pearson, Aidan Looney, Marcus Davidson, Schyler McGuirk, Drew Brock, Camden Melvin, Carson Gettle, and Taylor Gardner.
Stock Risers:
There aren’t a ton of guys that moved up in this set of rankings but Kip Fougerousse and Avery Beaver are two of the biggest. Beaver’s scoring has improved and ball handling has kept him bumping up his scoring average. However, the most notable is moving D’Andre Davis up to #2 overall and Anthony Leal to #1 overall. Two guys that have done nothing but impress this year. Could interchange them and make the case as well so could be a battle down to the last set of rankings.
